Job Description

Position: Licensed Counselor (LPC, LPCA, LMFT, LMFTA, or LISW) Reports to Clinical Supervisor/Agency Director Department:

Clinical Status: Full-time/Salaried

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and Director, the counselor is responsible for delivering quality therapy, managing and minimizing risks by maintaining accurate documentation, and building internal and external partnerships.

Position Responsibilities:

Assess the mental and behavioral health status of referred patients.

Provide counseling/talk therapy to scheduled patients utilizing professional counseling standards.

Formulates differential diagnosis of mild to moderate mental health conditions and/or substance abuse.

Formulates short-term and long-term counseling plans for patients under care.

Consults with medical and other providers regarding complex patients and prescription medications prescribed by providers.

Identify patients with urgent mental health conditions (e.g., suicidal, homicidal, psychotic, etc.) and make appropriate referrals to available emergency or psychiatric treatment facilities.

Ensure that all services provided are sensitive to each client's culture and individual needs. Provide written documents of counseling sessions, assessments, interventions, and provider recommendations and meet requirements for records documentation.

Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical and counseling services, including all necessary billing information.

Maintain a clinical caseload that meets agency and productivity expectations.

Ensure accurate and consistent use of encounter forms for all client contracts with behavioral health providers to ensure accurate billing of third-party resources.

Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and serving on special committees.

Position Qualifications:

Skill in providing professional counseling/talk therapy according to established standards of care; excellent customer service and support skills.

Organizing and prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines; and excellent written and verbal communication.

Ability to successfully counsel patients for improved mental and behavioral health.

Successfully refer patients to mental health specialists and other community resources as appropriate. Interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds.

Work effectively with managers, co-workers, members of the public, and professional groups.

Communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely with others (internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing); consistently demonstrate a positive/proactive customer service attitude; consistently maintain ethical behaviors exemplary of quality public service or fair standards, inclusively, among all employees and members of the public.

Work as an influential team member, function independently, and exercise sound judgment and initiative.

Be flexible to shift priorities and to maintain confidentiality.

Follow our Clinical practice guidelines and all applicable policies, including adhering to the mission, vision, and Guiding Principles, to receive constructive feedback, including evaluating one's productivity and practice attributes.

Be available to accept new assignments as needed.

Education and/or Experience:

Completion of an accredited program with certification and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina.

Licensure and/or Certification:

Must possess current South Carolina license

Must be able to meet and maintain current credentialing and privileging requirements

Valid South Carolina Driver's License

Scheduling:

Clinicians are given autonomy to create a schedule that fits their needs but must ensure the ongoing ability to meet productivity demands.
