Job Description: The Counseling Center at The State University of New York at Fredonia seeks a part-time Mental Health Counselor to join our team the beginning 08/21/2023, 30 hours per week. KEY RESPONSBILITIES Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center, the successful candidate will: Provide brief individual and group counseling, treating students with developmental and mental health concerns. Maintain strict adherence to the ethical principles, standards, and guidelines of the American Counseling Association and state laws, rules and regulations of NY State Office of the Professions, and departmental policies and procedures; Provide crisis counseling with students in need of immediate intervention; conduct mental status assessments and make appropriate recommendations regarding student psychological welfare and substance use behaviors; Keep timely, appropriate, and accurate clinical records; demonstrate computing skills, proficient typing skills, and comfort using electronic medical records and scheduling software; Serve a diverse population of students in an inclusive and multiculturally competent manner; Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies. Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS NYS provisionally Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC-P); Demonstrated knowledge and skills in brief, psychotherapy; Experience in crisis intervention and consultation; Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission; Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS NYS Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC); Counseling or Clinical Psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Trauma informed orientation to counseling; PE, EMDR, ARC, TF-CBT certification; Experience working in a college/university setting with a diverse population of adolescents/emerging adults; Ability to work at a fast pace and handle spontaneous work demands. Additional Information: This is a part-time, per diem (20 hours per week), SL3, UUP represented position beginning immediately. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
