Medical Associates Clinic is hiring a full or part Medical Laboratory Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Laboratory department.

Schedule: Weekend position with full or part time opportunities. Evening and weekend shifts qualify for excellent shift differential.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Performs complex chemical, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, bacteriological, and molecular diagnostic analysis on body fluids such as blood, urine, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, and synovial fluid for a medium sized specialty health care clinic laboratory.
  • Participates on teams working on sample collections such as urine, blood, feces, and bone marrow.
  • Counsels patients on various pre-test requirements and proper collection techniques.
  • Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures on infants, children, adults, and geriatric patients; properly identify and label specimens.
  • Makes evaluations on the validity of test results that are obtained
  • Maintains proper records of the test results and patient reporting.
  • Ensures precise and accurate test results through the utilization of quality control protocols and procedures.
  • Assists in the preparation of statistical laboratory reports.
  • Prepares, maintains, and keeps laboratory supplies such as reagents.
  • Performs full maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, providing troubleshooting and repairs as needed.
  • Utilizes laboratory information systems and health information systems to access orders and result patient data; submits test results to attending physicians with strict adherence to turn around times for Routine and STAT testing.
  • Processes, packages, prepares laboratory send-out testing to multiple resource laboratories such as MAYO, LabCorp, Myriad, NeoGenomics, Quest, MercyOne and Billion to One/Unity.
  • Advises providers on proper additional testing algorithms, significantly contributing to positive patient outcomes.

Location: Primarily located in Dubuque, IA - East Campus

Qualifications You Have:
Experience: One to three years of similar or related experience. Experience preferred, but not required.

Education: MLT or MLS certification (or equivalent) required. Completion of two-year college degree or bachelor's degree through an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) program that included an internship with a hospital or in a clinical laboratory setting.

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information that may require some discussion.

Physical Aspects:

Stooping - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Reaching - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing - Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

Pushing - Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Pulling - Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting - Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Fingering - Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Grasping - Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Feeling - Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.

Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sound with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.

Vision - 20 / 40 or better in the best eye with or without correction.

Repetitive Motions - Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

None - The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
