Employment Type: Full time Shift: Night Shift Description: Provides expertise and leadership to staff under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. A Technologist conducts diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. Microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers and computer equipment are used by Technologist to perform tests that give doctors and patients detailed information about various conditions, including the progress and prognosis of the patient. A Technologist performs standard laboratory procedures requiring a broad use of independent judgment and responsibility, consistently providing high quality patient care. Provides expertise and leadership to staff under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. A Clinical technologist conducts diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. Microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers and computer equipment are used by Clinical Technologist to perform tests that give doctors and patients detailed information about various conditions, including the progress and prognosis of the patient. A Clinical Technologist performs standard laboratory procedures requiring a broad use of independent judgment and responsibility, consistently providing high quality patient care. Skills related to the daily operation of information systems used in laboratory services. Has appropriate working knowledge of the Meditech lab system for specimen Processing, ordering, resulting, inquiry functions, and troubleshooting. Is knowledgeable of downtime procedure, both short and long term. Utilizes computer system for job-related tasks only. Is aware of centralized help desk notification process (i.e., email / 7777 ). Works to produce lab tests in an efficient organized manner. Effectively prioritizes work. Actively adheres to the department's STAT protocol. Understands that ER specimens are prioritized as STAT. Is skilled at assigning appropriate priority to samples received. Knows that critical and STAT results must be called and attended to immediately. Understands the entire workflow process for assigned work area. Skilled in multitasking without jeopardizing quality and timeliness of work. Focused on details related to workflow. Maintains and meets established turnaround times by maintaining an organized work process. Sufficient knowledge of QC, protocol and procedures and brings exceptions immediately to manager. Assists in problem solving, troubleshooting and maintenance and documents corrective actions. Presents problems in a timely manner to management. Efficiently and accurately performs assigned analytical testing using independent judgment as appropriate. Recognizes abnormal results, brings them to the attention of management and notifies appropriate medical personnel. Shares and demonstrates technical skills with students, technologists, and technicians. Assists management in the evaluation of new instruments and methodologies. Participates in continuing education, competencies, and in-services. Performs proficiency testing. Prepares solutions and reagents used in conducting tests. Monitors refrigerator, freezer and/or incubator temperatures following up appropriately when temperatures are out of expected range. Appropriately and efficiently receives and processes all specimens brought to the lab. Assesses the acceptability of specimens and has knowledge of rejection policy and handling of sub-optimal specimens. Follows send out procedures when necessary. Helps prepare for and participates in all applicable inspections. Performs other duties as assigned/required by manager. Understands the importance of turnaround-time expectations that must be met. Assists with inventory management to include unpacking and putting supplies away. Has knowledge of the Point of Care Management Program and understands the involvement of the laboratory and its operation. Recognizes the importance of accurate patient identification and specimen labeling and adheres to the Laboratory Patient Identification Policy and Specimen Re-labeling Policy. Correctly operates all automated instrumentation in Chemistry. Evaluates test results appropriately and understands flags and error codes and responds appropriately. Performs calibration and verification procedures and knowledge of criteria for acceptance. Accurately performs manual testing. Has knowledge of dilution protocol and able to perform appropriate dilution using correct diluents Cleans and sanitizes volumetric glass pipettes. Demonstrates knowledge of the Spectrak Specimen Management System. Monitors and maintains the Millipore and Hydro Water Supply Systems. Provides leadership with instrument problem solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Prepares for and participates in all applicable inspections. Oversees the tracking, performance and documentation of proficiency testing. Monitors Quality Assurance activities. Assists the manager in the review of Quality Assurance and Quality Control. Assists with the development and validation of new methods and instrumentation. Maintains appropriate level of supplies, ordering when necessary Coordinates training of new personnel and students. Develops special projects under the direction of management. Has significant knowledge of Point of Care products with active participate in the staff training, competency, data review, quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, and equipment function and maintenance. Assists with Document Control and record keeping. Has significant knowledge of all Chemistry Analyzers. Demonstrates knowledge of interdepartmental and laboratory goals, standards, and Operations. Actively participates in Performance Improvement. Extensive knowledge of the laboratory Information System. Correctly operates all automated instrumentation in Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis. Evaluates test results appropriately and understands flags and error codes and responds appropriately. Performs manual differentials and retains slides for Pathology review when indicated. Accurately performs manual testing. Performs Body Fluid Cell Count and Differential. Recognizes age-related differences in interpretation of lab values. Provides leadership with instrument problem solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Prepares for and participates in all applicable inspections. Oversees the tracking, performance and documentation of proficiency testing. Monitors Quality Assurance activities. Assists the manager in the review of Quality Assurance and Quality control. Assists with the development and validation of new methods and instrumentation. Maintains appropriate level of supplies, ordering when necessary. Coordinates training of new personnel and students. Develops special projects under the direction of management. Has significant knowledge of Point of Care products with active participation in the staff training, competency, data review, quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, and equipment function and maintenance. Has significant knowledge of all Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis Analyzers Demonstrates knowledge of interdepartmental and laboratory goals, standards, and Operations Is capable of running system validation for the Hematology and Coagulation Analyzers Actively participates in Performance Improvement Extensive knowledge in the Laboratory Information System The ability to work as part of the lab team in a positive manner. Knows the location of safety procedures and protective equipment. Recognizes the importance of a non-punitive approach to error reporting.
