Interns work collaboratively with the health care team in medicine and provide service and support to other departments, physicians and patients through direct clinical patient care and teaching of students rotating at GH. Over the course of their first post-graduate year of medical education they will develop competence in all six ACGME core competencies (Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Professionalism, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Practice-Based Learning and Systems-Based Practice) as demonstrated through the evaluation system of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Their day to day duties and responsibilities are described in detail n in the Policies and Procedures Manual of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. The specific goals and objectives to be met in each rotational experience are described in the Curriculum of the Internal Medicine Residency Program and in the Program's Out-Patient Manual. By the end of the Internship year interns will have demonstrated sufficient expertise and independence in all six Competencies to advance to the second post graduate year of training. Interns pro-actively learn from and collaborate with members of the Hospital Medical Staff in the continuum of care with primary care and specialty physicians who have their patients admitted to the teaching service ( team ). They do timely and accurate dictated H&P's and Clinical Resumes as well as daily patient care and communicate verbally and in writing on a frequent basis as the needs of the patients and their educational needs dictate. They provide exceptional, efficient, cost-effective patient-centered care as evidenced by patient satisfaction and quality metrics. Demonstrates Leadership Skills Qualifications EDUCATION Graduation from a medical school accredited by the LCME or from an osteopathic school of medicine accredited by the AOA or from an International Medical School with certification by the ECFMG. EXPERIENCE None LICENSURE Training license in CT (Obtained by the Hospital for the individual) SPECIAL SKILLS General internal medicine diagnosis, treatment and consultation including care of patients on telemetry and in the intensive care unit under the direct supervision of resident (PGY-2 or 3) and attending physicians.
