Summary This position is located in the Health Information Management (HIM) department at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility in Belcourt, North Dakota. Videos Help Duties As Medical Records Technician, you will: Perform admissions, discharges, patient registration, scheduling of appointments, and the release of information (ROI). Maintain an orderly flow of patients' medical records and ensure all medical record forms and documents are complete and accurate. Ensure all release of information requests, Federal Tort Claims, and Freedom of Information Act requests are responded to and completed within the set time frames. Maintain confidentiality of medical record information in accordance withthe Privacy Act of 1974, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and the Indian Health Service (I.H.S.). Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-4: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. Or, possess (2) years of education above the high school level. Or, possess a combination of education and experience. GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Schedule patient appointments; prepare new patient charts; collect demographic and insurance information to verify patient eligibility; complete and accurately file various types of correspondence into the medical record. Or, possess (4) years of education above the high school level. Or, possess a combination of education and experience. GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Complete patient registration interviews on all patients that present for services; schedule daily appointments; processes routine requests for Release of Information; collect third party billing forms, signatures and verification of eligibility; process patient admission and discharge documents; assemble and analyze medical record information to ensure compliance with procedural requirements. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
