We are hiring for a Medical Lab Technician in the Cleveland, Ohio area. This is a long-term career opportunity for someone who is looking to take the next step in their career.

Description

The Medical Lab Tech will primarily be working in the blood bank laboratory where they receive in-blood products (donated blood, plasma, platelets), process it, ensure it's safe, and then send out around the hospital for transfusions. Specific duties may include:

  • Perform testing on blood samples in a compliant manner to ensure they are safe.

  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

  • Send blood products to appropriate operating room, transfusion, etc. via tube system or window pick up

  • Process blood samples for pre-op patients for blood product orders, neonatal screenings, etc.

  • Answer phones and take order for blood product.

  • Verify all correct information for patient and blood product.

  • Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to specific job duties.

  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

  • Perform proficiency testing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations ie analyze proficiency survey sample in the same manner as a patient specimens, no communication with other CLIA laboratories, complete record retention and accurate documentation and result reporting.

  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Associate degree in a medical laboratory science field.

  • OR Have education and training equivalent to associate degree in a medical laboratory science field from an accredited institution per CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel.

  • Experience using either Orthovision Gel OR Immucor Neo Iris

  • ASCP certification is preferred, but not required if you have the medical lab degree

  • Pay is based on experience and qualifications
