JOB REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education: BS or BA in laboratory science/medical technology. Minimum Work Experience: 1 year laboratory internship or equivalent preferred Required Licenses / Certifications: MT (ASCP) or equivalent Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Venipuncture skills, EKG skills and arterial puncture skills preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for the processing of laboratory specimens and reporting of results in all areas of the clinical laboratory Maintains laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the laboratory. Performs phlebotomy ( ie, venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, arterial puncture, bleeding times. Performs EKG analysis on in-patients, out patients. Daily routine cleaning and maintaining of laboratory neatness. Attend and stay current with all safety/fire/infection control training programs. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, staff, families, visitors and acts in a professional manner at all times. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department unit team. Promotes effective working relationships with employees of all other departments. Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor. Performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed maintenance on the instruments and equipment as appropriate. Performs calibration of equipment as required. Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimen's when problems occur. Notifies the supervisor or manager if unable to resolve the problem. Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precautions procedures will be followed in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals. When requested, performs duties required for relief in higher classifications in the supervisor's absence. In addition to essential functions the Lead Technologist will be responsible for lot roll over, correlation studies, compliance documentation, blood bank alarm checks and quarterly maintenance. Pipette calibrations, instrument repair and service records. MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS Handles Multiple Priorities. Independent discretion/decision making. Makes decisions under pressure.
