This position coordinates process implementation, standardization, and internal process control measures across the assigned specialty. Job Specifics: Benefits Eligible: Yes Shift Details: Days, 10 hour shifts plus every 3rd weekend Scope: As a Lab Technical Specialist you need to know how to: Serve as the resource person for their assigned area(s) of responsibility. Monitor section processes and assure compliance with all accrediting agencies. Assist lab staff with resolution of problems involving technical operations. Perform as a bench technologist/technician (see MT/MLT JASSI). Assist the laboratory with ensuring technical operational policies, procedures and protocols are up-to-date and reflect current practice, maintenance and operational accuracy of instruments, compliance with appropriate accreditation agency requirements. May assist with development, implementation and monitoring of Quality Improvement projects. Assist in orientation and training of new associates. Assist in ongoing training and technical competency of staff and completes all required documentation. Aid in the selection and implementation of new instrumentation and/or tests. Perform and ensure acceptability of all validations or other studies required in instrument and/or test implementation and maintenance of all such records as required. Participate in problem solving to address issues relating to patient safety, care and service. Support and promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a department/unit team and interdepartmentally to facilitate that departments ability to meet its goals and objective. Maintain accurate logs, records, files and all other required documentation for process and log reviews, QC processing, and CAP proficiency testing program. Write and revise technical procedures. Investigate and report errors. May keep chemical inventory list updated. Monitor supply and equipment inventory. Notify leadership team of needed equipment repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree in Medical Technology or related science Current Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) certification (ASCP) or equivalent Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience in assigned technical area Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements: Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.) May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
