Currently, the hospital offers 63 specialties, 319 patient beds, and serves as a Level II Trauma Center. McKay-Dee offers nationally ranked programs and has been recognized as an IBM Watson Top 100 Hospital. Scope: The Registered/Unregistered Medical Lab Scientist performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab, such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Transfusion, and more. These scientists act as a technical expert to clinical staff, co-workers, and other departments. They are critical to patient diagnosis and care, ensuring accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, record review, instrument maintenance, and results/analyzer troubleshooting. Intermountain caregivers in this role will have opportunities for growth, taking on additional responsibilities such as: Key operator QC review Training and mentoring new staff Assisting with evaluation and validation of new equipment Technical writing Compliance readiness (CAP, CLIA, etc.) Acting as interim Team Lead This position requires organizational skills as well as the ability to navigate many technical processes with a high level of detail. These caregivers work well as a member of a team and maintain a clean and safe work environment. Minimum Qualifications Registered MLS: Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. - OR - Completion of course work and internship requirements in a qualified MLS program and eligibility to sit for the BOC. Certification must be completed and documented within 6 months of hire to remain in the registered MLS role. Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist certification or equivalent certification as approved by Manager and Human Resources. Certification must be maintained to remain in job. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights and on-call. Unregistered MLS: Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. - OR- official transcripts demonstrating completion of a recognized and accredited program. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call. Medical Lab Tech (MLT): Associates degree or at least 60 semester hours of an accredited MLT program along with national certification, MLT (ASCP or approved accrediting agency), or equivalent (military) certification as determined by Manager. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights. Preferred Qualifications Experience with laboratory information systems. Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory. Demonstrated ability to use laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets. Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person. Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information. Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. See and read lab equipment, monitors, and documents. Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer or other equipment.
