Under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or Director of Laboratory Services, performs clinical tests in the areas of hematology, urinalysis, general clinical microscopy, blood banking, serology, bacteriology, coagulation, chemistry, arterial blood gases, and special chemistry to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs phlebotomy services as needed. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adheres to all policies, procedures, and regulations when collecting samples for testing. Performs tests, procedures, and analyses as requested by the physician and in accordance with all regulatory regulations. Performs quality control for all procedures. Posts or verifies results on computer; takes action when indicated by the values. Immediately communicates to the physician or RN any critical or markedly unusual results. Communicates at shift change lab status and/or problems. Exhibits good working knowledge and logic in troubleshooting and repair of instruments. Maintains the equipment and work area in a clean, orderly manner on a daily basis and documents repairs required. Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI). Ensures the use of AIDET with each patient interaction. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Knowledge of basic laboratory tests and procedures. Math and computer skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: BS degree in a Biological, Chemistry or Physical Science or Eligible to perform high complexity testing as outlined in the CLIA 1988 regulations. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BS in Medical Laboratory Science. One year relevant experience. REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Highest certification obtained PREFERRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, (ASCP) and/or CLS Registry with National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel, Inc.
