Covenant HealthCare US:MI:SAGINAW EVENING SHIFT PART TIME BENEFITED Summary: The Medical Technologist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment to Extordinary care for Every Generation. This individual had documented training appropriate for the testing performed prior to analyzing patient specimens. Testing includes waived, moderate complexity; and those high complexity tests authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director. The training insures the skills required for proper specimen collection, handling and processing. This includes knowledge of laboratory procedures, proper instrument use, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration, a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage and ability to implement quality control policies. The individual possesses an awareness of the factors that influence test results and the skills required to assess and verify the validity of patient test results before reporting. Responsibilities: Follow the laboratory procedures for specimen suitability for testing. Perform waived, moderate and high complexity tests ordered by a physician or authorized personnel using approved methodology for test analysis. Report and maintain records of patient test results. Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adhere to the laboratory quality control policies. Document all activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed to include troubleshooting. Follow the Laboratory established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the established levels of performance. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results. Correct the problem or immediately notify the General Supervisor or designated Laboratory Charge Medical Technologist who will correct the problem or immediately notify the Technical Supervisor. Designated Technologist with at least one or two years documented experience in a high complexity laboratory, and as recommended by the General Supervisor, may be designated to perform Laboratory Charge Technologist duties for the Laboratory General Supervisor who is scheduled off duty. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory established performance specifications. Comply with all Covenant and Laboratory policies, procedures and safety practices. Demonstrate working knowledge of appropriate safety protocol to include universal precautions, MSDS safety program, use of personal protective equipment in designated areas, and proper hand washing techniques. Trains new employees and teaches MLT and MT Interns as designated by the Manager. Perform other related duties as assigned. Age Specific Competency Newborn Infant Pediatric Child Adolescent Adult Geriatric Other information: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelors degree in laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited college/university with MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) CM certification within 1 year of hire. 6 months of clinical laboratory experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Technical knowledge, skills and abilities as they relate to the various areas of the clinical lab. LIS applications (i.e. Cerner applications and databases) Strong written and verbal communication skills To utilize independent judgment and work autonomously Demonstrate a positive attitude in the workplace showing dependability, cooperation, and desire to produce the most accurate, timely, and cost effective results atta WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Constant sitting and near vision. Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs. Frequent walking, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, midrange vision, depth perception, visual accommodation and color vision. Occasional lifing up to 100 lbs. Occasional standing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting, reaching, feeling, far vision and field of vision.
