The battery recycling team is looking for highly motivated and talented individuals to develop innovative products to support Tesla's various platforms. The design engineer will own design, development, and testing of recycling systems, which are integral to the Tesla's future products.
- This role will develop, scale up, and optimize battery recycling equipment, including drying and shredding systems
- Produce complex technical drawings including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and pipe routing drawings
- Prepare designs and bill of material estimates from general instruction
- Thoroughly learn and understand existing processes and equipment to address ongoing technical challenges and identify step-change improvement opportunities, including blank-slate concepts
- Support design, development, and implementation of equipment modifications, improvements, and next generation tools from proof of concept through to full scale production to enable improved battery performance and/or cost
- Use data analysis tools to interpret and present validation data
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or materials science or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of system design required
- Experience with large facility infrastructure design (manufacturing, recycling facilities, processing facility, etc.)
- Experience with HVAC and exhaust system design
- Experience with Process and Instrumentation Diagram design
- Experience with developing specifications
- Knowledge of engineering principles, codes, and standards
- Proven strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them to equipment design and process development for high volume manufacturing
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
