Join the dynamic Shipping Container Recapitalization team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, where we pioneer advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation's submarine and aircraft fleet. Position: Mechanical Engineer - Structural Analyst Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive structural analysis on radiological cargo and shipping containers containing radiological cargo.
Utilize both manual calculations and advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to model the structural performance of fuel and containers during hypothetical accident scenarios, including elastic-plastic analysis.
Collaborate with the Shipping Containers organization to support engineering and business activities, encompassing engineering evaluations and the preparation of detailed technical reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Minimum four-year Bachelor's degree in engineering.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Expertise in Advanced Structural Analysis.
Experience in Static and Dynamic Finite Element Analysis.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Familiarity with Abaqus/Standard and Abaqus/Explicit, or similar FEA software.
Competence in Elastic-Plastic Structural Analysis.
Strong technical writing skills.
Knowledge of radiological material shipping containers and Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARPs).
Familiarity with 10CFR71.
