Mechanical Engineer with Security Clearance

What you'll do This is a role for a Mechanical Engineer who is eager to contribute to a small, fast-paced team. You will help design, document, implement, and prototype mechanical designs for encrypted communications systems. You will interface and collaborate with system, hardware engineers as new capabilities are developed and transitioned into service. In addition, you will provide support to production transition efforts as required from development. This job entails the development of the government Next Generation Encryptor (NGE) program. This effort is to develop, test and certify the NGE High-Speed encryptor to support government enterprise networks. The day-to-day

• Design mechanical systems using 3D CAD software

• Create robust piece part and assembly models, properly layout piece part & assembly drawings, thoroughly dimension & annotate drawings, and organize & maintain a logical CAD file system
• Understanding of precision machining, fabrication, and finishing methods for metals, especially aluminum.

• Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance and ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing
• Generate and collaborate on required design documents, development requirements, specifications and verification methods for mechanical assemblies

• Support test development of environmental requirements and design to these requirements

• Work closely with hardware engineers on PWB layouts and bord outlines

• Thermal Analysis of systems

• Maintain drawings and initial parts list Agile

• Responsible for owning and driving technical issues to resolution

• Integrates and debugs design in the laboratory What you'll need 7+ years of mechanical design experience using 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks,Pro/E, SolidEdge) prefer experience with SolidWorks
Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance and ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practice
Experience with a file management vault such as PDM, Windchill, or PLM 360
Associates degree or equivalent experience
Strong working knowledge of how to create robust piece part and assembly models, how to properly layout piece part & assembly drawings, how to thoroughly dimension & annotate drawings, and how to organize & maintain a logical CAD file system
Strong understanding of precision machining, fabrication, and finishing methods for metals, especially aluminum.
Working knowledge of MS Office products
US government position. US citizenship required.
Must be able to obtain a top secrete clearance. Design for EMI/EMC of high speed digital electronics

Design for FIPS 140-2 physical protections
Design for rugged military applications

• Interested in a mechanical designer who has strong 3D CAD modeling and drafting skills)

• 1+ years of experience with PDM software

• 1+ years of experience with Agile software

• 1+ years of experience with PLM software Areas of specialty may include:

• Sheet metal design and fabrication

• Large weldments with post welding machined surfaces

• Waveguide elements: waveguide design, waveguide routing, flexguides, rotary joints

• RF component layout and mounting

• Electrical enclosure layout and mounting

• Equipment design for mobile transportation applications

• Thermal design of systems with experince in thermal modeling tools Salary range $142,900.00 - $248,600.00 / annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
