751024 - Bus Maintenance Worker - Responsible for keeping school buses and other district vehicles in proper operating condition.

Required Endorsement(s): None

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Valid Mississippi issued Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger (P) endorsement or willing to obtain a CDL with a P endorsement
  3. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) School Bus Certification (S Series) or willing to obtain and ASE certification (S Series)
  4. Experience in body repair of large vehicles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

Knowledge and experience to perform gas and diesel engine tune-ups, complete engine overhauls, general mechanics and other related duties.

REPORTS TO:

Chief Operations Officer and Transportation Supervisor

JOB GOALS:

To keep the district's vehicles and buses in such a state of operating excellence that they present no safety hazards to individuals or interruptions to the educational program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Diagnose, overhaul and/or repair district vehicles, buses and equipment.
  2. Perform body repairs, including minor body work, painting, glass, and seat repairs. Replace valves and seat grinding.
  3. Braze and weld metals as needed.
  4. Install rings and bearings and effects proper adjustments.
  5. Overhaul and repair carburetors and clutches.
  6. Tune motors using standard testing equipment.
  7. Clean and replace spark plugs.
  8. Install radiator hoses.
  9. Repair transmission, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies.
  10. Take down, repair and reassemble air compressors, pumps and related equipment.
  11. Service vehicles with fuel, oil, air, water, and fluids on a rotational basis.
  12. Respond to vehicle breakdown emergencies to include nights and weekends as needed.
  13. Check alignment of wheels.
  14. Maintain current inventory of supplies and equipment within the established inventory system.
  15. Receive and issue parts and supplies within the established inventory system as per established procedures.
  16. Maintain shop area, facilities and tools in a clean condition free of safety hazards.
  17. Insure proper disposal of oils, fluids and tires to meet the requirements of the EPA.
  18. Drive any bus route that may be required as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
  19. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may assign from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent and/or Designee.

Must be able to stand, sit, and move for up to 8 hours per day to perform required job duties as required by the nature of the business that is supported.

Working conditions are normal for an automotive environment. Exposure to changing temperatures inside and outside, routine lifting and occasionally in excess of 30 pounds, handling tools and materials, operating tools and equipment, exposure to moving mechanical parts, exposure to gasoline and/or diesel fumes and airborne particles, and the exposure to occasionally loud noise produced by automotive engines.
