Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership to 40 onshore and 30 offshore staff covering all aspects of financial reporting, corporate accounting, as well as accounting for airline specific processes such as cargo revenue and fuel expense, while setting the strategic direction for the department. Complete fiscal period financial reporting and accounting work accurately and on time. Lead team on various accounting topics including revenue recognition (passenger revenue, loyalty revenue), lease accounting, employee benefits (stock compensation, pension, etc), fair value measurement (investments), and impairment (tangible and intangible assets) among other technical accounting areas. Partner with external and internal auditors to complete statutory filings Supervise the preparation and timely filing of SEC reports (Form 10-K/10-Q, Form 8-K) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and GAAP standards Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Legal, Investor Relations, and Accounting to gather vital information and disclosures for SEC filings Own the preparation and review of financial statements, footnotes and MD&A sections included in the SEC filings, including solicitation and coordination of feedback from company leadership, Legal, and auditors Be responsible for month-end/quarter-end close business processes and related reporting Provide technical accounting guidance and support to management on complex accounting matters Direct the team to reach conclusion on various accounting topics as the company engages in business endeavors/transactions to ensure appropriate accounting treatment Implement and maintain internal controls over financial reporting processes to ensure the integrity of financial data and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements Stay ahead of evolving SEC regulations, accounting standards, and disclosure requirements, and ensure the company's reporting practices remain compliant Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to streamline financial reporting processes, as well as other accounting business processes, to enhance efficiency Serve as the key liaison with external and internal auditors to address inquiries, ensure agreement on technical accounting conclusions and support sign off on SEC filings Employee performance discussions and continual mentorship of staff Qualifications Bachelor's degree - accounting, finance, or related area; MBA or Master's degree in related field preferred CPA 10+ years of financial reporting experience with a focus on SEC filings within a publically traded company 5 years management and/or 5 years experience in related position preferred Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical accounting rules to C-suite leadership and non-accountants Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities effectively Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate cross-functionally to problem-solve Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to interpret financial data and disclosures accurately; and assess reasonableness of, investigate and interpret financial statement variances across reporting periods United Airlines is an equal opportunity employer.
