Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Materials and Processes Engineer / Sr. Materials and Processes Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Beavercreek, Ohio, and requires onsite presence due to the nature of the role. RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidate's responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Execute and document research on high temperature materials for functional RF structures ( 75%)
Support active programs with materials selection and establishing processing routes for ceramics, polymers, metals, and composites ( 20%)
Support various business critical functions ( 5%)
Develop, support, and/or lead R&D or direct programs, test plans and reports, finance tracking, proposals, and presentations. At any one time, the individual will serve in roles ranging from supporting engineer to team lead. Apply knowledge and expertise in materials science, chemistry, physics, and related fields to provide technical information, guidance, and solutions to engineers and scientists in support of R&D and production programs. Author, assist, and/or maintain material specifications and process standards, work instructions, and other engineering-related documentation.
Collaborate cross-functionally across functional Engineering Teams, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, to support business needs, including active communication with suppliers.
Support hands-on composites fabrication, mechanical testing of composites, thermal analysis and materials characterization, chemical analysis, qualification testing, and more. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: This requisition may be filled at either a Materials and Processes Engineer level or a Princip Materials and Processes Engineer level based on the qualifications below. Materials and Processes Engineer Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 2 Years of related engineering experience ; Masters Degree in STEM Familiarity with composites and related materials (coatings, resins, epoxy or polyimide adhesives, prepregs, fabrics, etc.)
Familiarity with polymeric materials or composite test method and process development, and qualification
Ability to prioritize and divide time between office, laboratory, and production floor wherever demand is required to achieve outcomes
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance, including Special Access Program within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs Principal Materials and Processes Engineer Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 5 Years of related engineering experience ; Masters Degree in STEM with 3 Years of related engineering experience ; PhD Familiarity with composites and related materials (coatings, resins, epoxy or polyimide adhesives, prepregs, fabrics, etc.)
Familiarity with polymeric materials or composite test method and process development, and qualification
Ability to prioritize and divide time between office, laboratory, and production floor wherever demand is required to achieve outcomes
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance, including Special Access Program within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's of Science in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Ceramic Engineering
Ability to execute research with a moderate level of guidance
Possess basic or advanced knowledge or laboratory experience in materials characterization techniques (DSC, TGA, SEM, optical microscopy, mechanical testing, etc.)
Understanding of processing property relationships of both structural and electrical properties of ceramics Familiarity with principals of engineering thermo-structural ceramics
Experience or familiarity with powder processing techniques
Experience or familiarity with composite processing techniques
Good presentation and writing/communication skills
Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment
Experience in working on business or engineering full life-cycle projects from project inception through launch
A passion and desire to work in a research-oriented role
Strong commitment and proven capability to work on multiple programs of varying size and scope at any given time, organize workload, achieve deliverables, and manage time effectively
Support or lead R&D programs, process development, direct testing, or qualification for composite and polymer materials.
Direct experience and desire in authoring or maintaining material specification, test reports, work instructions, and relevant documentation.
Direct experience with additive manufacturing (i.e., 3D printing) for thermoset or thermoplastic materials, either in lead role, including modeling and optimization, operation, and troubleshooting. Direct experience with mechanical testing including tensile, shear, compression, and flexural testing (e.g., MTS, Instron, related platforms). General or advanced knowledge in thermal analysis and materials characterization techniques including FTIR, DSC, TGA, GC/MS, rheology, including formulation chemistry and interfacial science and coatings. Expertise managing or leading projects as Principal Investigator (PI) while working with minimal supervision in either team setting or independently. Salary Range: $72,100 - $108,100
Salary Range 2: $88,600 - $133,000 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
