PPE Required: Steel or composite toed shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
The role of the Production Operator is broken down into Batch Making, Machine Operator and Material Handler. The tasks for each are outlined below:

Machine Operator - The Machine Operator is responsible for the filling and packaging of paint products into containers. The Machine Operator position includes the duties of Filler Operator, Set-Up Operator, Case Packer Operator, Label Operator and Palletizer Operator.
Reads instructions on batch ticket to properly set various filling and packaging equipment for automatic operation.
Lifts and maneuvers hoses weighing up to 50 lbs. to manifold connections for coupling to pipe system.
Opens and closes valves located at various levels, orientation and degrees of manageability.
Drives a forklift vehicle to transport pallets of materials within the plant, loading finished goods from the Fill Line onto trailers, and unloading packaging items from trailers.
Lifts and positions stacks of labels, lids, pails, and cartons weighing up to 50 lbs. from floor level to overhead level to load automatic machines.
Climbs and descends stairs and ladders in the course of the filling process.
Lifts and positions 5-gallon pails of product weighing up to 65 lbs. from waist height to floor level.
Completes paperwork involved in the course of the filling process.
Uses painting and cleaning equipment (brushes, brooms, shovels, dustpans, mops, etc.) for general housekeeping chores.
Wears required safety equipment as needed.

Batchmaking - The Batch Maker is responsible for making batches of paint by following standard procedures. The Manufacturer position includes the duties of Batch Making Operators:
Reads instructions and follows departmental procedures to add raw materials to mixing tanks to produce batches of paint.

Moves 50 lb. drums with the assistance of a two-wheeled cart or drum handler attached to a walk behind lift.
Opens, lifts and dumps bags of raw materials weighing 50 lbs. into mixing tanks repetitively.
Lift and dumps pails weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
Opens and closes valves, sets and activates meters (meters may be automatic), which are located at various levels, orientation and degrees of manageability.
Drives a straddle stacker vehicle to transport drums, totes and pallets of materials.
Completes paperwork involved in the course of the manufacturing process.
Uses painting and cleaning equipment (brushes, brooms, shovels, dustpans, mops, etc.) for general housekeeping chores.
Wears required safety equipment as needed, to include a half-face and full-face respirator.

Material Handler - Responsibilities may include loading or unloading shipments, pulling and picking orders, and operating a variety of machinery and equipment. Material Handler employees include the shipping and receiving positions:
Loads and unloads shipments, verifies materials and packing slips, and stocks items as appropriate.
Pulls, picks, and stages orders based on customer or production needs, prepares items for shipment or production, and completes appropriate paperwork or updates system records.
Operates a forklift and other machinery or tools to transport, move, stock, and store materials and product.
Completes appropriate paperwork and/or enters data regarding incoming materials, work-in-progress, outgoing orders, and other operations to ensure records and counts are accurate.
Assists with maintaining an inventory of materials, product, and goods, such as completing cycle counts, performing calculations, entering information, and other related duties.
Ensures compliance with operating policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment and efficient operations; may require the employee to wear safety equipment or gear.
Assists with maintaining a clean and safe working environment and may perform various janitorial or housekeeping tasks.
Communicates with production, quality control, maintenance, and other departments to maintain a safe and effective environment and to ensure quality products.
Participates in various committees and problem-solving teams, in a professional manner.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Preferred:
High School Diploma or GED

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Ability to troubleshoot simple equipment related problems. Issues beyond the Operator's level of experience should be brought to management's attention.

Preferred:
Knowledge of chemistry
1 year or more of experience in a manufacturing environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50-100 pounds.
Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to extreme seasonal temperatures.
May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.
May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
Work surfaces may include concrete.
Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
Verification of customer codes, lot numbers, packaging materials and Raw Materials.
Perform inventories of packaging materials: labels, cartons, bottles, cans, glue, tape, stretch film, ink, etc.
Work as part of a team or independently. Program label and ink jet printers,
Perform and participate in general housekeeping activities.
Perform all requirements pertaining to Batch Tracking functions.

Operate forklift

Preferred:
Experience with employee direct access systems such as GEMS
