Summary/Objective

Support for all manufacturing, assembly and support departments' equipment and processes
Troubleshoot tooling, processes, assembly and testing
Optimization of manufacturing, assembly and testing processes and equipment
Design of tooling, dies, gages, fixtures, equipment and automation
CAD modeling and detailed 2D drawings
CAM programming
Application of Lean to process improvement

Essential Functions

Analyze manufacturing processes and reduce/control variables to improve quality and reduce costs.
Identify root causes of nonconformance and develop solutions to eliminate them.
Develop methods to improve machine capabilities and improve performance.
Use CAD modeling, FEA analysis and mathematical calculations to design cutting tools, dies, gages, fixtures and equipment.
Use metallurgical knowledge to specify materials, heat treatments and coatings based on mechanical and physical properties of the material to best optimize design performance.
Use CAM software to program CNC equipment as required.
Use all available metrology tools to measure and evaluate tooling, dies, fixtures, gages, etc.
Develop and direct a system to document best techniques, assuring manufacturing gains are maintained.
Develop and maintain a system to track and evaluate equipment and tool performance
Evaluated various database software packages to determine tool usage, inventory levels and obsolescence.
Work with machine, equipment and tool manufacturers and suppliers to incorporate state-of-the-art equipment and techniques.
Act as a resource to assist shop floor personnel in troubleshooting production runs, set-ups and assembly/testing issues.
Work with Design Engineering and Operations personnel to develop standard work and instructions.
Adhere to all SSP safety policies and ISO procedures.
Perform any other duties or assignments as presented by Supervision in either written or verbal form and for either a permanent or temporary period of time.
Apply Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement methods and tools to make work process improvements
Observe and apply department and company Safety policies and procedures.

Competencies

Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
Intermediate proficiency with CAD Modeling and Detailing
Basic proficiency with CAM Programming
Technical/Professional knowledge of Metallurgy and Materials Science
Ability to perform mathematical calculation using a calculator or software
Ability to keep accurate records.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Technically oriented with good mechanical aptitude
Maintains attention to detail.
Has a professional attitude.
Works well individually, or as a team
Shows initiative and is highly motivated.
Knowledge of Quality ISO procedures and Lean Standard Work

Work Environment

Exposure to machine oil and fluids.
Manufacturing / shop environment with large power equipment cutting metal.
Medium to heavy exposure to various machining fluids.
Lifting and/or moving objects weighing up to 50 or more pounds.
Working with and around sharp metal chips.
May operate various power hand tools like drills, grinders, etc.
Many hours standing/walking involved in a production environment.

Entry Level Qualifications

SME certification in CMfgE, or CMfgT, required
BSME or BSMET, preferred

Entry Level Experience

1 yr. in a manufacturing environment, or Co-op/internship
1 yr. CAD
2 yrs. in a CNC manufacturing environment, preferred
1 yr. component design, preferred
1 yr. design experience of equipment/automation and processes, preferred.
