Title: Mandarin Linguist
Location: Washington, DC (onsite & hybrid)
Duration: Multi-year contract

Clearance: DHS Public Trust (if you do not have a DHS Public Trust clearance, anyone hired will be processed for one)
Salary: $120,000 - $140,000
Travel: Remote with ability to travel to support case work as required. Some travel requirements may be outside of the USA.
Summary:
Subject matter expert in the interpretation, translation, and transcription of various foreign language items of relevance to cybercrime investigations, including, but not limited to, media articles, online communications, chats, emails, audio files, and video files. Reviews and performs detailed translations of foreign language financial documents and spreadsheets associated with illicit digital asset / cryptocurrency platforms, financially motivated cybercriminals, and online money laundering services in order to provide investigators and analysts with an understanding of the context and major purpose of said items. Utilizes a variety of foreign language open source, commercial, and government databases in order to perform research into specific online threat actors or services of interest and to identify artifacts of relevance to investigations.
Functional Skill Set required:

Manages proactive research assignments or studies focused on specific geographic and functional foreign language areas of interest to investigations, to include research into emerging illicit financial platforms.

Provides succinct summaries of translated foreign language items to allow investigators, analysts, and stakeholders to appropriately triage items for further investigation.

Participates in interviews with foreign speaking sources, informants, defendants, and foreign law enforcement partners and provides consecutive interpreting during these interviews when required.

Recognized as a foreign language expert within the organization. Provides expert-level foreign language analytical and translation support to investigative team members and functions as the team's foreign language subject matter expert.

Possesses motivation to build out a Language Specialist program within the customer, to include assisting and interviewing potential future candidates, developing standard translation and transliteration protocols to assist with investigations, and determining strategies that best support the needs of the customer investigative mission, particularly in the context of financially motivated cybercrime.

Technical Skill set required: N/A - Basic Office software communication tools.
Work experience:

2-5 years providing linguist translation services in the specified language.

Prior experience working with law enforcement analyst or investigative tools preferred.

Prior experience working with a US Government organization providing translation services in support of an investigative process preferred

Educations or Certifications required:

Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) preferred.

Proficiency in a foreign language of interest, to include advanced reading, writing, and listening abilities generally equivalent to a score of "2+" or higher on the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT), "Advanced High" on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), or "2+" on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR). Some flexibility is afforded.

Ability to pass a language proficiency exam, if required by the customer.
