The Manager, Accounting is responsible for oversight of accounting services team; providing financial information to managers and owners that is relevant to effective operation of these entities; financial reporting and analysis including consolidated reporting. Also responsible for performing general accounting functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for some managed facilities, providing technical assistance to facility accounting staff as needed.

The Role:

Supervises the accounting (including general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll), recording, timeliness and integrity of detailed monthly financial statements and additional quarterly and annual filings as required for each community (varies).
Establishes, modifies, documents and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures
Prepares quarterly GAAP consolidations and reporting.
Develops communication and relationships with community accounting staff.
Prepares audit GAAP schedules and functions as interface with auditors.
Supervises and assists in the preparation of required regulatory reporting.
Assists with the design, development, and roll-out of new or enhanced information systems including updates of manuals.
Monitors accounting performance against targets and produce benchmark reporting.
Reviews or prepares analyses for discussion regarding trends based on financial reports.
Manages (makes hiring selections, coaches/mentors, performs performance reviews of) team of accountants who directly support the communities assigned. Assists in training and development of larger Accounting and Financial Reporting team as needed.

Assigned community duties:

Reviews or prepares and distributes monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, financial statement review report, and statement of cash flow).
Reviews or performs monthly journal entries.
Reviews or performs monthly account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
Maintains subsidiary ledgers for prepaid expenses (or ensures team is maintaining).
Reviews accounts payable functions. Responsibilities include review of cash balances and authorization to issue accounts payable checks, preparation of certain check requests, verification of account coding and review of preliminary check registers.
Reviews or performs reconciliations of cash accounts.
Assists with payroll journal preparation including assuring proper departmental fringe benefit accruals for paid time off, as well as other employee benefits and payroll accruals, and performs workers compensation reporting as required.
Works with community accounting staff to insure proper control of assets and correct coding of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and operating statistics.
Reviews or prepares or assists in the preparation of Medicaid/Medicare Cost Reports.
Reviews or performs account analysis on a per request basis.
Reviews capitalization policies, fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
Provides phone support to community accounting staff as needed

Experience and Qualifications:

Four-year degree in accounting and five to seven years of accounting experience (demonstrating career progression).
Management experience preferred.
Familiarity with CCRC and/or long-term care industries also preferred.
Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to solve accounting problems of medium difficulty.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of accounting systems (Accounts Payable, Payroll, Billing, General Ledger)
Must be proficient in the use of PC based programs (Excel, Word processing, etc.)
Must be knowledgeable of accounting principles, laws, regulations and guidelines.
Effective time manager and willingness to put forth extra efforts on an as-needed basis; establishing and maintaining priorities is key.
Ability to relate favorably with field-based accounting personnel, administrators, auditors, owners, DOMs and other LCS personnel.
Ability to provide quality customer service.
Ability to train field-based accounting personnel as well as onsite team members on the accounting systems.
Accounting office management skills.

Knowledge and skills:

Must be able to schedule and maintain daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual routines for multiple facilities (and coach/teach others on the team to do the same).
