JOB SUMMARY

The Manager of Environmental Services works under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer. The manager coordinates the work activities of the Environmental Services Department (EVS) to ensure proper procedures are followed. Provides back-up coverage in the absence of the Environmental Services Supervisor

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages, plans, organizes, and directs the Environmental Services Department including staff, budgets, policy/procedure compliance, training, infection control, DOT Biohazardous waste, etc.
  • Develops and applies all departmental, Infection Control and Hospital policies and procedures for the Environmental Services Department.
  • Responsible for the operational and capitol fiscal budgets for the Environmental Services Department.
  • Manage resources ensuring that the programs operate within budget and cost reducing initiatives are evaluated.
  • Member of CCMH Environment of Care, Infection Control, Emergency Preparedness and Safety Survey Committees, serves as an Ad Hoc committee member as required.
  • Respond to all pages, phone calls and e-mails promptly
  • Maintains a competent Environmental Services staff. Responsible for the hiring, training (education and safety) and providing disciplinary counseling and/or termination.
  • Manages staff attendance, timekeeping, and department scheduling.
  • Reports disciplinary problems to Chief Operating Officer and/or Human Resources.
  • Develops staff and programs for the Environmental Services Department.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and participation in the Quality Management Program for Environmental Services Department.
  • Develops and implements quality measures that include quality inspections, daily checklists, routine preventive work orders, department specific work orders and others as appropriate. Monitors and reports inspections to Chief Operating Officer and Infection Control Coordinator.
  • Monitors and handles guest complaints by following customer service guidelines to ensure patient/visitor and guest satisfaction.
  • Considers the impact and effectiveness of programs and activities and the level of customer service and public relations.
  • Ensures the program meets goals in terms of production by staff and utilization of resources.
  • Manages rentals.
  • Complies with the Hospital's Corporate Compliance Program including the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and Hospital and procedures.
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • High School Graduate or GED preferred.
  • Licensure
    • None
  • Certifications required
    • Manager must be certified in U.S. DOT Hazardous Materials Training and obtain recertification every 3 years as required by DNV surveyors.
    • National certification of specialty unit recommended. See Education Requirements Policy.
  • Experience
    • Two years or more supervisory experience in a care setting.
    • Environmental Services experience of at least three years in healthcare facility.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required (e.g., ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR)
  • Ability to interact well with co-workers, patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Ability to supervise/ manage in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to develop and support teamwork.
  • Effective management of programs using sound decision making and good judgement.
  • Demonstrates the ability to function under stress and in demanding situations while meeting all required deadlines when applicable.
  • Exercises effective use of problem solving, conflict management and team building skills to foster effective work relationships.
  • Computer knowledge including the ability to enter material into electronic records. Ability to operate fax, computer, and copy machine to perform the duties of the position.
