The Impact You'll Make in this Role The Skilled Craftsperson - Electrician is responsible for tasks related to the maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment. As a Skilled Craftsperson- Electrician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by: Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees. Constantly exhibit a guest service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in guest comfort and service. Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist guests with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the guest - do not wait to be asked. Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it. Install, alter, maintain, and repair electrical circuits, systems and fixtures, clocks, power appliances, generators, motors, and related equipment. Work in cooperation with and exercise some supervision over a helper. Order parts and tools as necessary with appropriate authorization. Any and all other duties as assigned. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications: Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments. Able to understand, foresee, and apply necessary safety precautions applicable to the Zoo environment. Able to read, write, and understand English. Able to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints. Knowledge of city and national electrical codes. Able to identify and correct defects in electrical systems, devices, machines, and equipment. Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrical and air conditioning trade. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, including working with high voltages. Three years electrical experience. A Valid Texas Electrician License (apprentice, or journeyman's) preferred. The San Antonio Zoo is an equal opportunity employer.
