Maintenance Carpenter
Full-time Position


Job Summary:
Under general supervision performs skilled maintenance carpentry work in the repair, alteration and maintenance of school district buildings and facilities and performs related work as required.

Essential Duties:
  • Performs normal maintenance on doors, locks, hardware Installs and repairs fixtures, signage, window hardware, floor and ceiling tiles partitions and locks.
  • Assists in the construction, maintenance of roofs, drains, furniture, fences, cabinets, shelving, chalkboards and bulletin boards.
  • Outside building inspections for masonry or carpentry work.
  • Adjusts work procedures to meet productions schedules.
  • Evaluates work orders to determine necessary equipment materials and time to complete job.
  • Assists in conducting the annual inventory of physical property.
  • Performs carpentry work to include framing, handing finishing drywall: and installing trim, casework, partitions and suspended ceiling grid. Operates all carpentry related power tools.
  • Performs masonry work to include, but not limited to concrete, brick CMU and stucco repairs.
  • Performs painting duties to include, but not limited to preparing surfaces by sanding, masking tape and use of cleaners to prime and paint in accordance with standard trade -Practices using rollers, brushes and power sprayers.
  • Travel to sites for repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Visual Inspects playground equipment.
  • Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintain inventory.
  • Responds to emergencies for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Assists other trades as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • This is not a complete list of other duties assigned depending on department needs.

Employment Standards:
  • Education and Experience: at least five (5) years' experience as a trade's worker; and
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of Trade School Preferred.
  • Skilled in reading comprehension, writing and basic math knowledge.

Knowledge of:
  • Basic knowledge of the codes, standards, practices, methods, materials and tools use in the building.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.

Ability to:
  • Interpret and work from building plans, blueprints of and manufacturer's specifications;
  • Communicate with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Work for prolonged periods on hot roofs, in ceilings.
  • Ability to read blueprints and work from oral and written instructions;
  • Skilled in use and care of tools and equipment.
  • Keep work orders records.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.

Working Conditions:

In a shop and field environment must perform heavy work, including pushing/moving items weighing up to 100 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 75 lbs. Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and poles, etc. one or more stories above ground level. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl through ceilings, under flooring and similar spaces. Should be able to work in inclement weather or other adverse conditions (tight spaces, dust, fumes, extreme heat, etc.). Perform other duties as assigned.
