Job Description Machinery Control Systems (MCS) Technician The GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for a DDG51 Machinery Control Systems (MCS) Technician to support shipboard testing efforts as well as Land Based Engineering Site (LBES) support. The main function of the candidate will be to provide lifecycle support of fielded Machinery Control Systems (MCS) on the USS ARLEIGH BURKE class of destroyer. This includes configure, monitor, and test DDG51 MCS Software. The candidate will be tasked by and report to technical leads within Code 551. The candidate will be expected to provide documented status updates on a regular basis. PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Lifecycle support of the supervisory machinery control system which includes, but is not limited to: Troubleshooting complex problems of all variants of fielded systems (microprocessor based control systems) both at LBES and shipboard Provide test support for all variants of fielded systems at LBES Provide shipboard SW & HW installation support of all variants of fielded systems at LBES EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 2+ years of experience as an electrical technician or field technician as it pertains to control systems in an industrial environment. Experience with control systems such as PLCs, VME, PXI, and/or Micro-Controllers Technical Skillsets Required: Basic electrical troubleshooting skills to include the ability to use a digital multimeter. Basic electrical principals to include understanding the difference between current, voltage and resistance as well as how to effectively troubleshoot circuits containing them Ability to read and understand electrical schematics Proficiency with a personal computer (PC) Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook) The ability to learn new PC applications as needed Reasonable problem solving ability Attention to detail and meticulous logging of testing, troubleshooting steps, and findings Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise confidently and professionally with a diverse range of people Sound analytical skills with an eye for detail; good problem solving ability and a practical approach. Effective time management skills Advanced Skillsets Desired: Advanced computer skills to include use of HyperTerminal, Putty, or an equivalent serial interface US Navy shipboard experience in engineering department Miscellaneous: Regular expected travel frequency 10-20% Professional written and oral skills are required SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance.
