Machine Operator

An entry-level Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining machines to produce precision components or parts according to specifications. They work under the supervision of more experienced operators or technicians and play a vital role in the manufacturing process. The entry-level machine operator sets up machines, loads materials, monitors operations, performs quality checks, and assists with basic machine maintenance.

Responsibilities

1. Machine Setup and Preparation:
  • Assist in the setup and preparation of machines for production runs.
  • Load program files, tooling, and fixtures into the machine control unit (MCU) or computer.
  • Verify machine settings, including tool offsets, workpiece alignment, and machine parameters.

2. Machine Operation:
  • Operate machines, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Load and unload raw materials or workpieces onto the machine.
  • Start and stop machine cycles, initiate tool changes, and perform routine maintenance tasks during operation.
  • Observe machine displays, indicators, or alarms to identify any malfunctions or deviations from specifications.

3. Quality Control and Inspection:
  • Perform basic quality checks on produced parts using measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, or gauges.
  • Inspect finished parts for defects, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
  • Make minor adjustments to machine settings or tooling to correct any deviations from desired specifications.
  • Report any quality issues or non-conforming parts to supervisors or quality control personnel.

4. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including machine settings, production quantities, and any issues or discrepancies encountered.
  • Complete production logs, quality inspection reports, or other required documentation.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or production delays to supervisors.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in machining is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of machines, their components, and operating principles.
  • Familiarity with machine tools and measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and programs.
  • Basic mathematical skills for calculations and measurements.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in performing tasks.
  • Mechanical aptitude and dexterity to handle tools, materials, and machine controls.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot common machine issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts or extended hours as needed.

  • Pay rate is $15 per hour.
