Artera is seeking a proactive and talented Machine Learning Engineer II to join our Machine Learning team. In collaboration with other tenured Machine Learning Engineers, this individual will aid in the development of machine learning models in healthcare IT. This is a great opportunity, ideal for an early-career professional eager to engage in full-cycle machine learning development, from data discovery to model deployment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and performance of our models, directly impacting our product's success and customer satisfaction. Strong communication and storytelling skills are essential for effectively conveying the impact of models on user experience and overall business outcomes.

The Machine Learning Engineer will also play a key role in advocating best practices in machine learning methodologies, balancing independent work with collaborative effort. The position involves a balanced mix of model development and data analysis, with a focus on identifying and addressing data needs and issues.

Responsibilities
  • Machine Learning Model Development: Develop, train, and fine-tune machine learning models using healthcare data, leveraging strong engineering instincts and debugging skills.
  • Discovery: Conduct thorough data exploration, validation, and discovery to identify opportunities for model improvement.
  • Performance Metrics Development: Establish and monitor key performance metrics to ensure model accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Analytics and Insights: Analyze data to generate actionable insights, translating complex findings into clear, impactful narratives.
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: Anticipate needs, think on your feet, and tackle tasks hands-on to find effective solutions.
  • Communication and Storytelling: Effectively articulate insights and ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, showcasing the impact and value of models.
  • Methodology Evangelism: Advocate for and implement best practices in machine learning methodologies within the team and organization.
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability: Stay current with industry trends, continuously enhancing your skills and adapting to shifting priorities.
  • Autonomous and Collaborative Work: Work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Grit and Perseverance: Demonstrate determination and perseverance in overcoming obstacles and driving projects to successful completion.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Master's Preferred)
  • Strong foundation in core machine learning techniques and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data analytics and performance metrics development.
  • Excellent communication skills for translating technical details into business impacts.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Proficiency in AWS (SageMaker strongly preferred)
  • Strong programming skills in Python for developing machine learning models.
  • Proficiency in SQL, preferably Postgres, for data manipulation and querying.
  • Solid understanding of statistical principles and their application in building machine learning models.
  • Knowledge of probability and its impact on model development and performance.
Bonus
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data and its unique challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience with app development using Python framework, e.g. Flask and Streamlit

$108,000 - $187,000 a year The compensation for this role will be based on level of experience and the geographic tier in which you are located. This position also comes with equity and a variety of benefits. Tier 1 Salary: $120,000 - $187,000 Non-Tier 1 Salary: $108,000 - $170,000

LOCATION

Artera values in-person collaboration and is currently hiring in the following US cities: Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Francisco/Bay Area, Kansas City, and Philadelphia (Wayne).

Artera HQ is in Santa Barbara, CA, and we have an additional US office located in Philadelphia (Wayne), PA. If you live in the Santa Barbara or Philadelphia area, your role will be hybrid and you will be required to work out of your designated office location 3 days a week, unless otherwise noted in the job requirements.

If you live in Los Angeles, San Francisco/Bay Area, or Kansas City, your role will be remote to start. As our team continues to grow in these cities, Artera will be considering opening offices in these locations. Once that happens, you will be required to work out of your designated office location 3 days a week, unless otherwise noted in the job requirements.
