JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide health services to students in accordance with nurse directives, nurse schedule and/or campus schedule at various campus clinics as assigned by the Coordinator of Health Services or campus principal.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide direct patient care utilizing competent nursing skills and established school health protocols under the supervision of the Coordinator of Health Services or campus Registered Nurse
  2. Provide safe environment for students. Initiate emergency care when necessary to staff and students
  3. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision to analyze situations accurately and take effective and appropriate action
  4. Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached)
  5. Administer and document medications according to district policy and procedure
  6. Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of Health, Texas Education Agency, and district policy. Make referrals as necessary
  7. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student health care as specified by district policy
  8. Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse
  9. Communicate with principal, health services coordinator, school counselor, teachers, parent, food services, and other staff regarding health services issues
  10. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and parents
  11. Other duties as assigned
  12. Maintain CPR/AED Certification
  13. Maintain Licensure requirements
  14. Model behavior and written/verbal communication that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  15. Follow attendance and punctuality rules
  16. Maintain confidentiality of information
EXPERIENCE:
  • Two years nursing experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Registered LVN-LPN with current Texas License
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening (obtain within 60 days)

Special Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of First Aid Skills
  • Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
  • Safe medication administration and documentation
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with children of all ages with various health conditions
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of modern nursing health procedures and practices including diabetes care, gastrostomy feeding, bladder catheterization and tracheotomy care as assigned by Coordinator of Health Services or campus Registered Nurse

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  • Maintain emotional control under stress. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria and communicable diseases
  • May be required to lift, push, or position students with physical needs, up to 50 lbs.
  • Districtwide travel required
