SUMMARY Pick up and deliver horses as safely and timely as possible keeping customer service a top priority. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Previous horse handling experience is required. Must be able to safely load and unload horses without assistance. Class A CDL is not required, but preferred. Be able to work the schedule that is assigned. Must be willing to work overtime and weekends during busy seasons. Must be able to read and write and understand written directions. Must be able to setup stall space in truck according to the bill of lading. Communicate with the dispatch office and agents at origin/destination tracks. Drive according to the law. Load/unload tack and equipment as required. Assist in loading and positioning horse(s) in truck/trailer. Must maintain all necessary paperwork. (Getting all signatures on bills of lading, making sure horse (s) has all necessary paperwork for travel, turning in completed bills of lading to the payroll department, completing and turning in logs, trip records and DVIR's. Must Pre-trip your vehicle at the beginning of each shift. This should include checking to make sure your permit book has all necessary registrations, permits, insurance card, etc Must keep truck and truck box assigned to you clean and free of preventable damage. QUALIFICATIONS In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Previous horse handling experience is required. Must be able to safely load and unload horses without assistance. Individual must possess a valid driver's license and must maintain a satisfactory driving record, medical examiner's certificate and clean drug screen. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs and have the strength and agility to pull/lift the loading ramp, stall partitions, upright bars, and chest bars. Must be able to lift and load tack and equipment into the truck/trailer. Must have the strength and agility to lead a horse on and off of the truck and must be able to control an unruly horse, if necessary. EXPERIENCE Must have 2 years previous driving experience with a background in horses or the horse industry.
