Major Duties: The CLC LPN provides nursing care to patients according to established facility procedures adhering to all VA and nursing policies, procedures, standards, and protocol. Nursing care includes but is not limited to: Personal Hygiene - bathing, oral hygiene, denture care, shaving and grooming. Positioning - positions veterans using principles of body mechanics and proper lifting and positioning device. Activity - assists residents with complications with activities of daily living. Nutrition and Fluids -assists veterans at mealtime following safety factors, uses adaptive equipment as indicated, manages tube feedings and care of tube per facility policy, measures and records intake and output as indicated. Medication - administers authorized medications through various routes per providers' orders. Elimination - assist veterans with bowel and bladder elimination as indicated, collects specimens as ordered, measures and records output as indicated, manages urinary drainage devices as directed per facility policy, performs bladder scans per facility policy. Respiratory- positions veterans to promote breathing and maintain open airway, assists with set up and administration of oxygen therapy as ordered, performs oral and naso-pharyngeal suctioning as ordered. Skin - observes, maintains, and promotes skin integrity by following evidence-based practice guidelines, facility policies, procedures, and protocols. Support - interacts with veterans and family members in a kind and caring manner especially during end-of-life, assists with care of body after death. Data Collection - obtains records and reports vital signs and measurements which include temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, weight, peripheral blood sugar, pulse oximetry and pain. Communication - reports significant changes or concerns in the patient's physical or psychosocial condition to the RN/Provider. Appropriately screens and intervenes in situations requiring a report to the RN/Provider. Work Schedule: Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty. A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance. The overtime rate is 1.5 multiplied by your regular hourly rate. As an intermittent employee, you are also entitled to weekend premium at a rate of 25% your regular hourly rate for work between the hours of midnight Friday to Midnight the following Sunday. Insurance: Intermittent employees are not eligible for health benefits unless expected to work 130 hours per month or more for at least 90 days. Licensure: Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-03 to GS-06. GS-05: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent that demonstrates the following KSAs: Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. Works with the registered nurse (RN) and/or physician (MD/DO) to appropriately orient/train less experienced LPNs and/or Nursing Assistants (NAs) /Health Technicians (HTs) in relation to acceptable standards of practice in promoting optimal patient care delivery. Provides effective education to patients and/or family members in relation to common disease processes, medication, and /or prescribed treatment regimes.
