Oceanside Care Center - DEPARTMENT: NURSING

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for observation and assessment of residents' needs in order to provide quality nursing care. Assists registered nurse with evaluating, planning, and carrying out of residents' care. Supervise the day to day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Nursing Care Coordinator/Supervisor/Director of Nursing Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited school for practical nursing Currently licensed in the State of New York Has knowledge of geriatric nursing principles and procedures Minimum of one year experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility or other related medical facility preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A person in good health with full range of motion. Must be able to stand, walk in limited areas, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, lift and carry during the course of his / her work day. Good vision is required.

Must be properly groomed and attired at all times.

Must demonstrate the ability to speak and write clearly, and communicate effectively in English with other staff members, residents, and visitors. Demonstrate leadership skills, good interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrate the ability to get along with and cooperate with other staff members. Works as a team member with other disciplines. Demonstrates fairness in dealing with subordinates. Demonstrates initiative and judgment in making suggestions and recommendations and ability to follow through in implementing same when appropriate.

Is able and willing to perform and complete work ass i gnment of subordinates when staffing patterns require this.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without the aid of a medical device)

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.

Must be able to cope with the mental/emotional stress of the position Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with

residents, personnel, and support agencies.

Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to relate and work well with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provides nursing care in conformance with established standards and procedures. Guides non-professional nursing personnel as to assure satisfactory work performance. Dispenses medications to residents as per physician's orders and facility policy. Has knowledge of residents' conditions at all times. Keep NCC/Supervisors aware of nursing-related problems. Assists physicians with examinations and treatments. Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing care and observation of residents. Maintains records of these residents' conditions, and treatments and diagnostic studies. Bathes and feeds acutely ill residents and assists with others, as needed. Teaches residents good health habits. Attends continuing education programs. Participates in Quality indicator studies for the improvement of nursing care within assigned area. Perform all other duties within the scope of accountability.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in well-lighted and ventilated areas. Sitting, standing, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions. Involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc. Willingness to work beyond normal hours when necessary. Attend and participate in continuing education programs. Communicates with medical staff and supervisors.

EXPOSURE RISK:

Has minimal occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens, body fluids, and tuberculosis.
