Job Description Description
UH Tripoint Medical Center Operative Services is an 8 operating room facility with 22 private preoperative rooms and 8 post anesthesia bays. This department provides pre-operative care, intraoperative surgical care and post-operative care to patients whom have or will undergo surgery. The interdisciplinary team includes Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologist, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurse First Assist, Licensed Practice Nurse, Surgical Assistant, Surgeons, Anesthesiologist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Administration and Secretary Staff and Operating Room Assistants. Perioperative services works closely with pre-admission testing (PAT), laboratory and pharmacy services, central sterile processing department, physician offices, and scheduling services to ensure the safest and best quality patient care.

Provide safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients and families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status. Essential duties include, Provide patient care, function in a primary scrub position. Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures. Assure appropriate instruments, supplies are present and in proper working condition. Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field and adheres to patient safety expectations. Perform other duties which support the operative team, includes following patient care hand off protocol, OR standards, protocols and policies in collaboration with an RN or ACN. Actively participate in the quality improvement process. Involved in learning, self improvement.

Essential Functions

Provide safe, efficient, age specific, nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status.

Essential duties include, providing patient care, functioning in a primary scrub position and to take responsibility for precepting others in the scrub role.

Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures and serve as resource in an area of expertise.

Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition, and demonstrate ability to operate service specific equipment.

Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field and adheres to patient safety expectations.

Perform other duties which support the operative team, includes following patient care hand off protocol, or standards, protocols and policies in collaboration with a RN/ACN.

Actively participate in the quality improvement process.

Involved in learning, self-improvement and performs as a knowledge expert and resource person for the service line.

Completion of Certified Surgical Technologist Program, 2 year program, certification or degree.

Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education

LPN License, Surgical technologist certification preferred but not required

Accredited Surgical Technologist Program preferred

Has completed Preceptor duties Required

Maintained promotional criteria Required

Thorough knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, suture and surgical procedures. Required

Displays understanding and provides guidance for the technical aspects of surgical procedures as it relates to the service line. Required

Leadership skills or in prior leadership role. Required

Use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs and prescribed medical therapies. Required

Responsible for arranging in-service training for new and existing equipment. Required
