Position Overview The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse for the LaSalle Veterans' Home. This position serves under the direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, performing a variety of experienced practical nursing functions for the physically ill, handicapped or geriatric patients on an assigned shift and nursing unit. Job Responsibilities 25% Under general supervision, independently performs a variety of skilled practical nursing functions for physically ill, disabled, or geriatric residents in an assigned nursing unit and shift. 25% Observes, records, and reports to physicians, registered nurses, or the supervisory nurse the symptoms, reactions, and changes in residents' conditions. 15% Provides for the emotional, physical comfort and security of residents. 15% Assists in maintaining working and living areas and supplies in good order 10% Assists in providing guidance to nursing assistants relative to nursing techniques 5% Performs selected nursing functions in situations which do not require the specialized knowledge and skill of a registered nurse. 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires Illinois license as a practical nurse. Requires one (1) year of practical nursing experience. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title. Conditions of Employment Requires ability pass a background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical. Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance. Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers. Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d .
