Apply Now JOB OVERVIEW: The purpose of this position is to ensure the health and welfare of the inmates; provide intake screening for medical needs and schedule appointments; provide routine and urgent medical care and intervention to inmate population of the Adult Detention Facility within scope of licensed abilities in an autonomous environment, including, but not limited to general office, medical, dental, psychiatric, obstetric, post-op and triage. The work is performed under the supervision of the Health Services Coordinator and strictly within the scope of licensed abilities. RESPONSIBLITIES: Ensures the health and welfare of the inmates and is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment in collaboration with the Security Officers. Works autonomously within scope of licensed abilities to collaborate with physicians, counselors and peers to develop treatment plans. Provides emergency evaluations and treatment. Evaluate and triage routine requests for medical treatment. Gathers detailed information. Performs physical and mental screenings. Compiles medical history. Determines fitness for confinement. Arranges patient transport to appointments and hospital. Responds to calls for medical assistance in housing units. Assists physician, dentist, counselor and psychiatrist. Coordinates services and activities. Obtain, document and carry out orders of health care providers. Interprets physicians' orders. Receives telephone physician orders. Monitors and maintains narcotics count. Performs detox observations and interventions. Performs suicide risk screenings and interventions.= Works varied hours including different shifts, weekends & holidays as scheduled. Draws blood, obtain specimens, assist with x-ray examinations, dispense oral medications, administer IM/SQ medications, administer TB tests and give injections. Documents all actions in the legal medical record. Maintains knowledge of jail nursing needs and methods including HIPAA requirements. Maintains knowledge of current inmate nursing care. Participates in on-going training to comply with license and correctional health professional certification. Prepares medical incident reports and assists in maintaining custody of medical records. Attends and participates in staff meetings. Orients new employees and contracted agency nurses and is responsible for their actions and activities during the orientation process. Procures stock medications and orders patient specific medications every month. Performs clerical tasks such as typing materials, filing records, scheduling appointments, maintains daily statistics, answers telephone calls, enters data to computer, transcribing physician's orders. Assists with maintaining medical and office records. Assists with medical inventory, supplies, and monitoring medications and narcotics. Assists with conducting safety/sanitation inspections. May assist with ordering other diagnostic services and arrangements for patient transport to appointments and hospital. REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work a minimum of two (2) weekends per month and holidays as assigned. May assist in filling-in for other shifts based on staffing needs - such as PTO days, call-in's, etc. Diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing Valid Missouri Practical Nursing license Healthcare BLS Certification One year (1) of LPN experience that covers broad functional areas of nursing Experience in corrections medicine, emergency department, or psychiatric facility highly desired Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered BENEFITS: This is a full-time 40 hour per week position which includes a full range of benefits including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee Health, Dental, Life, Disability, Retirement, and Tuition Assistance programs.
