Please note that this position is 193 days with 5 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro-rated. Job Summary:

The primary purpose of the position of a Licensed Social Worker is to help students overcome barriers to social and academic development by providing outreach and coordination for the student and his/her family. This job requires frequent interaction with students and families who may be in situations of distress and, as such, requires a high level of professional decorum, superlative judgment and the ability to perform under moderately stressful conditions.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the policies of public education and in support of the District's mission
  • Identifies social, emotional and psychological barriers to student achievement and develops intervention strategies to address them.
  • Assesses home, community and school conditions impacting a student's social and academic achievement, including home visits as necessary.
  • Provides direct counseling services to and serves as an advocate for students and their families.
  • Directs students and families to appropriate non-District-based resources and serves as a liaison to community agencies in coordinating and managing their delivery.
  • Works cooperatively with other student support personnel and, as necessary, outside agencies in performing assessments, managing cases and evaluating progress.
  • Provides crisis intervention, conflict resolution and case management services.
  • Serves as a liaison between the District, students and their families.
  • Provides training and consultation to faculty, administrators and other school personnel.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other coworkers and community members, including those from diverse cultures or backgrounds or those who speak limited or no English.
  • Submit all written correspondence, reports, orders and other paperwork within expected timelines.
  • Develops systematic identification and intervention strategies for children with significant behavioral, social, or emotional needs.
  • Assists teaching and support staff in the design and implementation of behavior change programs and classroom management techniques.
  • Provides individual, group, and crisis counseling to identified students.
  • Maintains student records as required by federal, state, and district guidelines.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is required.

Other Job Functions:
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Participates in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.

Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in social work or related field; Oregon state license to practice social work or a related field; valid driver's license and evidence of insurability; McMinnville School District welcomes applications from candidates that expand the District's diversity.
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License.
  • Coursework and experience in group process, especially as it applies to children.
  • Knowledge of assessment of intervention strategies for children with significant behavioral, emotional, and learning difficulties.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in working with students, staff, parents, and community agencies.
  • Ability to facilitate and promote guidance curriculum.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in behavior management.
  • Understanding of challenges facing the second language learner (bilingual Spanish/English skills desired).
  • Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously as a team member.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work without close supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel and the public.
  • Maintain confidential information and the privacy of District staff, students, and families.
  • Carry out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and new or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to respect confidential information.
  • Computer skills to include use of word processing programs, database programs and the Google Suite of products.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.


Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment varies but is usually moderate.


Terms of Employment: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of licensed staff.
