Position Description Department History Overview Harris County Resources for Children and Adults was founded in 1966 as Harris County Child Welfare Board to provide support services for children taken under the wing of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Fifty years later, Harris County Resources for Children and Adults still provides this support. But the now-county department has expanded services for early prevention, intervention, and adult services. Vision: To better the lives of children and adults in Harris County. Clinical Psychologist Overview: Under general supervision, the Clinical Psychologist will manage all aspects of the Tier III (treatment) services within the AWARE Harris Project, spanning across multiple school districts. Individuals in this role will be responsible for overseeing mental health clinicians and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDCs) from the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, conducting psychosocial assessments and/or psychological evaluations, and participating in case staffing for at-risk youth involved with multiple agencies. The Clinical Psychologist is expected to demonstrate comprehension of child and adolescent mental health issues, make independent, professional judgments and analyses regarding each client's mental health needs, and work effectively as a team member, coordinating, managing, and prioritizing multiple tasks and demands. Duties & Responsibilities: Psychological Assessment and Testing: Performs psychosocial assessments and psychological evaluations using formal test measures to serve the purpose of service planning or mandated for school and/or residential placement and enters results into the clients' databases. Program Management: Facilitates programmatic and contractual compliance for Tier III services within the AWARE Harris project and produces monthly program reports to meet performance measures of the grant. Additionally, manages the assigned quality assurance components of the project. Family Engagement and Counseling: Conducts parent interviews with all guardians during the initial assessment phase. Facilitates a feedback session with the guardian upon completion of the evaluation to discuss recommendations and service needs. Additionally, assesses, reviews, and approves client files. Supervision: Hires, supervises, and develops staff to ensure the continuation of quality service delivery and the efficiency of clinical operations. Collaboration: Engages in interdisciplinary consultation meetings and/or monthly group supervision with the Resource Services Team to oversee progress and ensure services are responsive. Collaborates with prevention specialists and school district leadership to align the clinical response with student safety and wellness processes, which may vary by school district. Harris County is an Equal Opportunity Employer If you need special services or accommodations, please call or email Requirements Education: Doctoral Degree or equivalent (Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an accredited college or university in psychology Experience: Must have five (5) years of experience in Social Services working with minors and their families and conducting psychological evaluations, which includes two (2) years of clinical supervisory experience in a Social Services setting concurrently. Licensure: Licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Texas. Reliable transportation with a valid driver's license (Texas) and auto liability insurance. Must be able to travel to AWARE Harris Project sites (Channelview ISD, Sheldon ISD and Waller ISD) as needed. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health issues including childhood risk and protective factors, with a good understanding of the DSM-5. Knowledge of the Juvenile Justice System, Mental Health System, and/or Child Welfare System. Ability to independently make professional judgments and analyses regarding each client's mental health needs. Ability to quickly generate psychological reports, prioritize reports in order of importance and produce high-quality, well-written reports with significant details and minimal errors. Receptive to feedback from supervisors, demonstrating an openness to constructive input regarding the quality of work. Skilled in emphasizing, valuing, and successfully dealing with the special capabilities, distinctive cultural histories, and unique needs of people of various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Ability to maintain appropriate professional relationships with co-workers, clients, guardians, and other professionals Skilled in supervising employees, establishing effective communication channels, fostering a collaborative work environment, and ensuring optimal team performance. Self-motivated and possess excellent time management skills. Detailed-oriented, innovative, and demonstrated knowledge in employment selection and public relations. Ability to work as a team member to coordinate, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks and demands.
