Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of Ultrasound and Vascular activities to support patient care management.
    • 8)Identifies areas for operational improvement (clinical and/or technical) and implements processes required; serves as facilitator for Team Performance Plan development and service breakthrough.
    • 1)Performs time and attendance bi-weekly for staff.
    • 2)Participates in acquiring American College of Radiology accreditation for the Ultrasound and Vascular department. Ensures timely submission of application and images for continual compliance.
    • 3)Develops and/or revises protocols to meet American College Of Radiology standards and DNV requirements.
    • 4)Monitors department productivity levels and work functions insuring staff development and competency levels to meet demands. Provides overall direction in the planning of cross training for Associates. Schedules department staff and insures utilization of staff.
    • 5)Provides advice and direction regarding the technical standards per procedure.
    • 6)Identifies patient education needs and implements educational parameters as necessary. Develops and revises patient teaching information.
    • 7)Assumes on call responsibilities
  • Performs Ultrasound and Vascular procedures.
    • 1)Performs Ultrasound procedures according to the policies, procedures and imaging documentation by the Medical Director and the Manager of radiology Operations.
    • 2)Obtains patient history and other relevant information and documents this information appropriately.
    • 3)Monitor's patient's condition during all procedures.
    • 4)Schedules patient exams when necessary.
  • Selection, orientation, development and evaluation of a highly motivated staff who are able to successfully perform required services and comply with regulatory standards.
    • 1)Prepare staff evaluations, setting goals and objectives that are measurable and tangible.
    • 2)Identifies orientation and training criteria needed for new employees; coaches preceptors.
    • 3)Participates in professional development of staff and self through inservices, meetings and continuing education programs (utilizes learning opportunities guide for staff development). Insures clinical and/or technical competence.
    • 4)Oversees department personnel activities in conjunction with the Manager(as is needed). These activities include hiring, coaching, promotion recommendations within the department and disciplinary action (up to and including termination).
  • Coordinates the implementation of short and long range plans that will insure continued success of Ultrasound and Vascular operations.
    • 1)Assists in the development and implementation of long and short-range goals/objectives, policies and procedures to meet the demand for service.
    • 2)Participates in the planning and implementation of department expansions and/or new services in conjunction with the Director of Ultrasound and or manager (i.e., space planning, equipment, personal requirements and/or training criteria).
    • 3)Provides statistical data regarding daily operations, procedural information, workflow, etc., required for budgetary, business plans and/or proposals.
    • 4)Ensures that department revenues are maximized with review of detailed audits.
    • 5)Provides input into department budget regarding operation and capital equipment issues.
    • 6)Attends and participates in department and clinical/technical meetings.
  • Evaluates environmental safety and provides an environment that is safe based on age and developmental status and in accordance with established safety standards.
    • 1)Reports equipment malfunction and operational issues to appropriate resources.
    • 2)Coordinates Ultrasound inventory management, orders needed supplies and monitors supply utilization.
    • 3)Monitors and coordinates the test procedures performed.
    • 4)Maintains department orderliness and cleanliness per regulations and infection control policies.
    • 5)Performs quality control testing of equipment as necessary or required.
    • 6)Develops and implements policies, procedures and standards to insure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • 7)Remains current in methodologies, modalities and techniques and participates in evaluation and application of new equipment.
  • Participation in professional development of self and staff through inservices, meetings and continuing educational programs appropriate to the goals and needs of the department.
    • 1)Attends and participates in Department continuing education activities.
    • 2)Prepares and conducts inservices and education programs for the staff, maintains attendance records regarding seminars and meetings.
    • 3)Insures technical competence of self and staff, complies with competency descriptors.
    • 4)Attends CPR and safety classes.


Education/Experience Required:


  • Associate degree in health related field (ultrasound program) with a minimum of 5 years of ultrasound and Vascular experience


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:


  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of standard non-invasive protocols and invasive Ultrasound guided procedures Excellent team building skills Excellent interpersonal skills Knowledge of computer operations Excellent communication and presentation skills Excellent organizational skills Knowledge of all department ultrasound equipment Ability to work well with others and problem solving Ability to anticipate patient, employee and department needs for action
  • ADRMS CPR certification


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


  • Ability to be flexible, work weekends, holidays, STAT call ins in order to accommodate staffing needs Ability to perform lifting and transferring related to patient care (in medium weight category - 20-50 lbs occasionally) Ability to move ultrasound equipment for portable studies Ability to communicate and respond to patients in a timely manner Exposure to ill patients, may be exposed to bodily fluids and infectious disease Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work within short time frames
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
