Position Summary The Lead Polysomnographic Technologist is responsible for evaluation, testing and scoring of patient's studies. Providing guidance/training to the Polysomnographic Technicians and Sleep Lab Technician Trainee positions. Assisting with the duties of the daylight staff as needed and helping to cover daylight shifts during time off or if workload deems necessary. Essential Functions Works closely with the entire Health System Team. Sets up and applies polysomnographic monitoring equipment, ensuring patient safety and accurate test results. Schedules, performs and evaluates the technical validity of studies performed within the Sleep Lab. Acts as a primary provider of patient care for those studies as well. Oversees patient studies. Observe patients, check equipment, change and make adjustments as necessary. Scores reviews and participates in continually improving the quality of polysomnographic testing services. Provides summary analysis/reports of polysomnographic studies for physician review. Evaluates the technical validity of all studies performed within the Sleep Lab. Provides staff education under the direction of the supervisor according to departmental policies and performs as a preceptor for staff. Participates in patient education, support and contributes to identified clinical research. Instructs patients in the use of therapeutic devices per physician's orders. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate treatment. Must obtain 50 CEU's every five years to maintain license. Attends the monthly staff meetings and offers insight into the overall plan of Sleep Lab service. Demonstrates positive communication skills and professional behavior in dealing with all hospital contacts. Demonstrates commitment to professionalism. Maintains an open mind in dealing with any situation. Reporting Relationships Reports to: Sleep Lab Supervisor Supervises: None Qualifications Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (R.PSGT) required. Certified in basic CPR course C and BCLS. Effective verbal and written communication skills and appropriate social skills. Ability to teach others is helpful. Working Conditions Subject to hazards of flammable gasses.
