Responsible for the proper performance of a variety of procedures in the Blood Bank, consistent with professional standards and departmental protocols, policies and procedures. Promptly and accurately prepares specimens and performs testing procedures following approved protocols. Conducts routine quality control procedures and ensures that test systems are operating within established specifications. Ensures the proper working order of all equipment and that there are adequate supplies reagents for use. Performs ABO and Rh typing. Runs antibody screening tests. Resolves unexpected antibodies using appropriate cell panels. Sets up and interprets crossmatching of patient's sera with donor cells. Signs out blood products following Department protocols. Performs venipuncture procedures when required. Covers weekend shifts when required Blood Bank Supervisory Responsibilities: 10.1 Responsible for the proficiency and competency assessment of staff in the Blood Bank. Responsible for ongoing quality assurance Responsible for staff training in the Blood Bank Maintains inventory of supplies required for the Department. Organizes materials and agenda for the quarterly Transfusion Review Committee meeting. Keeps Policy and Procedure manuals up-to-date. Revises, with Director's approval, policies and procedures as needed. Ensures that the Blood Bank meets all standards and regulations outlined by the JCAHO, AABB, FDA and CLIA. Maintains inventory of Blood products at established levels. Reviews Safety, Infection Control, Human Resources and OSHA policies and appropriate Laboratory Manuals with staff. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Licensure/Certification/ Registration: Must have MT, MLT, BB or SBB (ASCP) certification or equivalent.
