Summary:
The Lead Engineer will be responsible for performing engineering support for the gas turbine field engineering team. This person will guide activities associated with gas turbine field service, assuring rapid disposition of non-conformance reports, requests for information, evaluation of field issues including data collection and root cause analysis support of gas turbine field related issues. The Lead Engineer will be required to work with the Outage Services, Parts, Repairs, and Controls divisions to troubleshoot and resolve field related problems.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Support the field service inspection and operational issue resolution relating to gas turbine components, performing engineering tasks under the supervision of the Gas Turbine Services Engineering Manager.
  • Provide technical support to field service personnel with interpretation of design criteria, evaluation, and resolution of field issues.
  • Prepare work instructions for field inspection or service-related work including recommendations for improving current processes.
  • Review and compare dimensional information obtained from field measurement to help resolve field discrepancies, need for corrective actions and suggesting ways to correct the condition if required.
  • Develop and implement engineering data sheets, field engineering procedures and quality alerts for continuous improvement.
  • Lead and support Root Cause and Corrective actions following company process, including containment, root cause investigation, corrective action development, and validation.
  • Review operating data for trending and troubleshooting turbine/generator operational issues.
  • Participate in field outages to document engine conditions during inspection, disassembly, and reassembly, providing sufficient information and recommendations to support the resolution of non-conformances.
  • Support ISO audits and compliance efforts, and where possible, enhance the documentation and configuration control methods in use by the gas turbine outage services division.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit and maintain a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Communicate effectively with subordinates and management at all levels.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends, as required.
  • Travel up to 20% to power plant sites domestically and internationally, as needed.

To be considered for this role, you should have:
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree - Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in gas turbine and generator Field Service Engineering
  • Knowledge of gas turbine engineering including overall gas turbine and generator configuration, turbine parts, accessories, and auxiliary systems is required.
  • Process knowledge in Power Industry; detailed knowledge & proficiency in Quality Systems, Engineering Design, and CAD capability desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (English), Spanish a plus.
  • Deep analytical capability to collect and analyze field data and provide prompt, sound engineering direction.
  • Work effectively without supervision - self-starter with outgoing personality.
  • Effectively collaborate in a cross functional team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals.
  • Ability to write and review technical reports and correspondence including customer reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, suppliers, and other employees in the organization.
  • Customer Service orientation; Identifies, analyzes, & solves engineering problems quickly with practical solutions.
  • Exposure to industrial power plant, repair shop and office environments
  • Ability to travel to field locations both domestically and internationally as needed.
