Job Details Job Location: USCG Kodiak - Kodiak, AK Salary Range: Undisclosed Description Job Summary: Performs the carpentry duties necessary to maintain in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings, and trim made of wood. Primary Duties: Perform at a carpenter level Oversee performance and compliance of work Schedule, direct work Estimate labor hours and materials cost Orders tools and materials Communicate with Coast Guard representative and Company regarding the scope of work, completion dates, change of priority and job level determination Assist the company with Davis Bacon determination Assist workers with daily tasks and provide expert knowledge Provide assistance to work control Safety Leader and environmental steward for the shop Assist the COM shop with manpower or knowledge Ensuring the work is completed on time and with good results to eliminate government deductions Competencies: Positive Attitude/Enthusiasm Diversity/interpersonal Skills Attendance/Punctuality/Dependability Teamwork/Integrity Qualifications Education, Experience, Skills: High School Education or GED Equivalent Valid Driver's License Basic Computer Skills Carpentry Certificate Issued by Vocational schools/technical colleges or Journeyman Certificate Issues from Carpenters Union General Knowledge of all maintenance and construction trades Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolds, and walkways; be able to complete assigned tasks in high or confined space Must be able to clearly communicate by radio and phone Knowledgeable and competent to operate hand tools and power tools Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods or time; carry materials and tools to work site up to 50lbs regularly and 51+ occasionally by team lifting. This position requires manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools. Work Environment Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to maneuver around maintenance sites, see, hear and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Ability to perform manual labor under dirty and uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather. Work in inclement weather environments for extend periods. May be required to be on call on a rotational basis as directed. Travel to remote sites may be required. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Additional Qualifying Factors As a condition of employment, will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Having reliable transportation to/from work is a necessity and must be able to have access to military installations.
