POSITION: Latchkey Aide EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: As Determined by the Director of Latchkey Hours As Determined by the Director of Latchkey SALARY: As Set by the Board of School Trustees QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Enrollment in High School Preferred: High School diploma and college enrollment IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Latchkey EVALUATED BY: Director of Latchkey SUMMARY: The Latchkey Aide is under the supervision of the Latchkey Director who supervises all daily Latchkey activities. The Aide will use tact and courtesy in relationships with children, staff, the public and school personnel. The Aide will inform the Director about any concerns, questions or problems expressed by students, staff or parents. Essential Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. a. Familiarizes self with Latchkey Club rules. b. Plans weekly activities. c. Implements weekly and daily activities. d. Organizes activity materials as needed at the beginning of the day. e. Checks for messages and other information at the beginning of the day. f. Meets with students as assigned by the Latchkey Director. g. Supervises students during attendance and discussion times. h. Serves snacks to children and supervise children during snack time. i. Cleans tables and floor after snack. j. Utilizes activities approved by the Latchkey Director. k. Sets up activity tables after snack. l. Supervises indoor or outdoor activities as needed. m. Encourages students to use toys, games, equipment, and furniture in the correct manner. n. Never leaves students unsupervised or unattended. o. Writes parent payment receipts as directed by the Director. p. Attends staff and in-service meetings as needed. Child Management Skills a. Provides reinforcement for positive behavior. b. Deals effectively and consistently with inappropriate behavior, but never uses physical punishment (hitting, shaking, etc.), humiliation, or uses an inappropriate voice at students. c. Adheres to school and Latchkey discipline policies. d. Is consistent and fair in dealing with students. e. Promotes a warm, open, and accepting climate. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before parents, staff, and students. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: The ability to add, subtract, and multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. The ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to operate a personal computer and related software. The ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. The ability to perform duties with the awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently require to stand, talk, and hear and sometimes to walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books, and AV carts.
