General Description A Large Production Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader. This position operates loaders equipped with front mounted hydraulically powered bucket (6+ yards) which is used for production load, off-road and street trucks. Key Duties Operates or articulates rubber-tired tractor-type vehicle equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas, to feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, stockpile aggregates, haul trucks. Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader. Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material. Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump Material. Performs routine daily maintenance on loader, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning. Operate the equipment over rocky or uneven land safely. Drive smoothly under harsh weather conditions. Other duties as required or assigned by the supervisor. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. Two years experience with large production loaders This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Front-End Loader Operator. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees in English. One to three years or more of industry related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges. Professional references preferred. Physical Requirements Constant physical effort, including standing is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day and/or night. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties. Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment. Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions. The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Front-End Loader Operator encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, night work also possible. Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project. Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery. Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete. Additional Requirements Subjection to physical screening may be required along with other tests as applicable. The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, reach forward, and grasp. The employee is frequently required to climb, bend forward, reach overhead, repetitive foot motion, and eye-hand-foot coordination. The employee is occasionally required to sit, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, use repetitive wrist motion, finger dexterity, pinch, and eye-hand coordination. The employee is frequently required to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Safety Requirements Report safety hazards. Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage. Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by immediate supervisor. Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules. Refuse any unsafe task or operation. Participate in safety meetings and training. Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers. OSHA 10 certification or higher preferred. Required to be achieved within one month of hire.
