Job Title: Laborer (Street and Sewer) Location: Clarksburg Public Works Reports to: Superintendent of Public Works Department: Public Works Wage: 20.58/hr. Status: Full-time Posting Date: March 15, 2024 The City of Clarksburg is seeking qualified applicants for the position of laborer in the Public Works Street and Sewer Departments. The Public Works Department employees are considered public servants who play a significant role in preserving the community's quality of life. Job Duties and Responsibilities The job duties and responsibilities listed below are those that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The City Manager may modify this description as the needs and requirements of this position. Work a forty (40) hours workweek, Monday through Friday, with the opportunity of overtime after serving a probationary period. Perform a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of city streets and sewer lines, equipment, vehicles, facilities, and tools. Handle a variety of materials, conduct clean-up activities, and support the city's local festivals and parades. Operate snow removal vehicles and maintain city roadways and sidewalks. Inspect and/or repair sewer lines. Drive and operate city vehicles and equipment including mowing and weed eating. Ability to address the general public tactfully and courteously, and to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees, public officials, and the general public. Other duties as assigned by supervisors or the City Manager. Required Qualifications Possess a high school diploma or equivalent education. Provide proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States. Must possess a valid WV driver's license. Class A or B CDL license or the ability to drive a standard shift vehicle is preferred. Required to pass a professionally administered pre-employment drug test, physical, background check and random drug screenings. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of general construction, repair, and maintenance principles. Experience in lawncare, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, truck driving, heavy equipment operations, or mechanics experience is preferred. Ability to work safely and possess effective verbal communication skills. Able to perform heavy manual work for extended periods of time. Physical Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Duties: This position is required to lift and/or move up to (50) pounds with or without assistance, push, pull, operate power tools and other controls. Employees are regularly required to stand, sit, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, climb, kneel, balance, squat, crawl, stretch, bend, maneuver in tight spaces, and use hands and fingers to handle equipment to perform duties. This position requires the ability to perform tasks involving strenuous physical labor around the city in varying weather conditions including wet, hot, and cold. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, peripheral, and color vision capabilities and the ability to adjust focus. Employees will frequently be exposed to odors, fumes, toxic conditions, air contaminants, dust, grease, high levels of noise and risk of bodily injury.
