Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Technologist. In this role, the successful candidate Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory Department in order to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Analyzes and interprets test results, and ensures accuracy of same. Repeat tests as necessary, especially those yielding abnormal or atypical results, and notifies appropriate personnel of such results. Job Responsibilities: Performance Expectations: Technical Skills Applies a basic level of knowledge of methods and clinical relevance of tests performed in their area of responsibility. Performs all preventive maintenance on schedule in accordance with laboratory procedure. Recognizes abnormal instrument or test performance and does not release patient results until the situation is corrected. Performs basic troubleshooting procedures and seeks assistance when necessary. Monitors reagent and supply inventory and informs supervisor of needs. Works effectively in high-pressure situations. Does not lose composure or make mistakes when processing a high volume of work. Organizes work well so others can easily work with them and take over for them in their absence Verifies and Processes specimens in an organized and timely manner. Can perform phlebotomy when required with expertise. Follows all procedures accurately. Performs all test procedures accurately Performance Expectations: Quality Assurance Performs Quality Control according to Laboratory protocol. Documents Quality Control. Documents corrective action when needed. Follows laboratory procedure when Q.C. fails. Applies knowledge of test interrelationships and assures results are accurate Performance Expectations: Communication Communicates clearly and concisely. Listens attentively and follows directions. Demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette. Effectively utilizes the computer to process specimens, report results and access information. Communicates ideas and suggestions with a positive intent. Conveys respect for the profession and acts in a professional manner. Works well in cooperation with others. Communicates knowledge and demonstrates procedures effectively to coworkers and students. Critical values are called to the designated contact person and recorded in the critical value book. Computer downtime procedures are followed when the computer is not operational. Demonstrates ability to utilize technical communication (procedure manual etc.) in the performance of their duties. Analytical Skills Performance Expectations: Demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to determine the cause and find solutions. Follows a logical process to problem resolution Uses all available resources to solve problems including manuals and manufacturers technical services Displays knowledge of mathematical and statistical calculations to evaluate Quality Control and calculate patient results Other Functions and Performance Expectations Performance Expectations: Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance Reports to assigned area on time for scheduled shift Adheres to hospital/department dress code. Arrives to work appropriately dressed, well groomed and neat. Completes all hospital requirements at designated time (i.e. annual assessments, educational, MedNetTra) Conforms to policies regarding confidentiality of information Follows call-in procedure when sick, late or absent. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a BS in Medical Technology which includes a clinical internship or BS in a related discipline with one year supervised clinical laboratory experience. NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible Professional accreditation preferred. Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations. Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems. Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing. Effectively communicates detailed data and procedures Works effectively in high-pressure situations Excellent organizational skills Excellent interpersonal skills Performs supervisory responsibilities. Required Licenses: Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $95,179.50 - $116,337.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
