Posting Number NONAC3214 Job Title Laboratory Technician I Position Title Laboratory Technician I Position Type Non-Faculty Number of vacancies 1 Salary Commensurate with experience Department Micro/Biochem/Immun (MBI) Position Summary The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Immunology at Morehouse School of Medicine is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented Laboratory Technician to join the laboratory of Dr. Erica L. Johnson. The laboratory technician will support the day-to-day activity in the laboratory. This includes supporting the execution and completion of ongoing projects, maintaining inventory, specimen processing and management, and equipment maintenance. Minimum Qualifications Education: BA/BS from a regionally accredited college or university is required. Experience: 1 year of relevant experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Preferred Qualifications Education: Emphasis in biology or related field preferred Education:Must have clear verbal and written communication skills, and a keen attention to detail. The candidate must be someone with great attention to details, well-organized, self-motivated, and able to efficiently manage time and experiments. The individual will be trained in all of the techniques used in this position. To be successful in this laboratory, the technician must have excellent communication skills and be able to work well within an interactive team environment. Familiarity with molecular biology and basic immunology is essential and highly desired. Applicants must be willing to work with biohazardous/infectious agents. Job Duties Description of Job Duty Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Maintain a high level of accuracy for all work + Work well as team-member, participate in positive communication, and foster an environment that allows all laboratory staff to work well together + Supports laboratory staff by maintaining glassware, logs, and record books, troubleshooting and resolving problems and helping with special projects. + Keeps laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt. + Help support other lab members and their projects + Carry out own scientific projects, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator + Specimen management and processing + Maintain web-based electronic inventory of cryopreserved cells stored in liquid nitrogen freezers + Prepare laboratory biohazard and sharps waste for disposal + Establish and maintain laboratory standards, ensuring that all laboratory equipment are maintained in good operating condition + Data Management - document all procedures clearly and extensively + Lead or train students or team members on laboratory techniques and assays + May perform data analysis, interpretation, and statistical analyses + Other duties as assigned Pre-Employment/Employment Requirements All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings.
