POSITION SUMMARY $25K bonus The Laboratory Technician performs laboratory testing procedures according to established procedures, under the supervision of a designated Medical Technologist or Laboratory Supervisor/Manager/Director. The Laboratory Technician performs tests in compliance with standards and reviews and verifies results to ensure data validity. This position applies appropriate procedural techniques related to specimen procurement and handling, instrument operation, operator maintenance, application of universal precautions and inventory monitoring. The Laboratory Technician performs and document quality control procedures and proficiency testing in accordance with established parameters and standards. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Minimum of two year degree in related health sciences and completion of an accredited medical technician program or meets FDA qualifications for CLIA (1988 Clinical Lab Improvement Amendments) standards for all laboratory and moderate complexity testing. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: MLTASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or equivalent, registry eligible and required from 18 months of hire date or transfer. Certification must be maintained if not grandfathered from the Board of Registry (BOR) and requires participation in 12 CEUs annually. EXPERIENCE: Prior laboratory experience preferred, but not required. Knowledge of medical terminology required; knowledge of laboratory information system utilization after six months on the job training. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Strict compliance with laboratory Fraud and Abuse policies and requirements is an employment condition. WORK ENVIRONMENT Must have the ability to distinguish colors. Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the laboratory environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. The department specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool lists the essential functions of this position. This position demands increased amounts of standing, bending and manual manipulation as well as some light lifting. Core competencies will be assessed primarily to the following patient population(s) served (with the exception of newborns): All diagnoses/conditions of patients admitted to the hospital. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP This position reports to department leadership.
