POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Lab Supervisor, the Lab Technician will to be responsible for the safe and accurate sampling, and testing of aggregate and asphalt samples procured at various aggregate pits, plants and construction sites. DUTIES: Assist in testing of samples in the labs for production and shipping samples of aggregate and asphalt. Travel to various projects, aggregate pits, plants and labs to procure samples. Split samples and perform necessary testing. Report results to plant and supervisors. Perform data filing and quality assurance sample storage. Input tracking data into the lab database. Ensure that the work environment is safe and healthy at all times. Travel required. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of aggregate, and asphalt products and industry quality standards. Intermediate computer skills. Willingness to develop knowledge of all aggregate and asphalt lab testing equipment. Two Years of aggregate and asphalt QA or QC Testing Preferred. Certification in WAQTC AgTT (Aggregate) and AsTT (Asphalt) preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft and Excel preferred. PHISICAL DEMANDS/SAFETY: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Sitting: 20% of time Standing: 80% of time Driving: Local travel mostly limited to 150 miles a day to various aggregate pits and construction projects. Weight Lifted: Must frequently be able to safely lift and carry 70-100 pounds. For safe lifting, co-workers can assist with heavy objects. May occasionally lift items above their head. Physical Movement: May frequently be required to walk over uneven ground, balance, stoop/crouch, kneel, grab and hold objects. Several repetitive actions throughout the day such as carrying and lifting full buckets, splitting samples and other tasks as needed. Speaking / Listening: Needs to communicate clearly with supervisors and co-workers - particularly regarding understanding and following instructions and safety requirements with precision. Working Conditions: 20% of time will be spent working outside in the elements.
