Job Description: Reporting to the Director of Product Marketing, located in our Denton, TX facility, the Lab Technician, Gas Apparatus conducts test plans and prepares reports for Gas Equipment apparatus (Oxy fuel torches and pressure/flow gas control equipment). The role will support both the development of new products and the sustaining activities of existing lines. Primary Duties Interfaces directly with lab customers to determine customer needs meeting to gather additional data. Plan and prioritize incoming lab requests from customers. Work independently to conduct testing. Records tests, analyses, develops reports and discusses and answers any questions regarding the results to management and customers. Researching and identifying necessary materials and equipment, recommend or design testing methods, and design and construct special lab equipment with minimal supervision. Administer and manage test reports and Industry Standards databases. Interface with outside agencies to ensure compliance for Satellite Lab Certification requirements. Support safety policies and protocol by following all necessary requirements. Clean and maintain testing equipment and testing areas, including recalibration of equipment. Support continuous improvement and 5S activities for lab equipment and testing procedures. As a result of testing analysis, make recommendations in product design and product changes to Engineering and Product Management team. Work with sales team on providing help with events with the Demo Van. Take on a project management role to support various projects as needed. Maintain product regulatory renewal requirements and works with engineering team to ensure products meet requirements. Work with Training Team to aid during training sessions for both internal and external parties. Visit with customers to identify issues, assist with solutions, and strengthen relationships by delivering effective technical explanations and building trust through compliance and standards. Provide support and recommendations to quality team along with advice on corrective actions on discovered problems. Compare competitors and report on new technologies or trends found within the industry. Create purchase orders to support the global R&D team and local model shop and engineering team. Interface with supply chain teams and directly with suppliers to assess products being considered meet ESAB and regulatory standards. Provide insight to internal teams and customers on product functionality and applications to provide recommendations for their needs. Assist with workflow management between model shop and the rest of the engineering team. Other duties as assigned or may be required to support business initiatives. Qualifications Associate degree in Fabrication, Welding or Technical Discipline. Minimum 2 years' experience using a variety of mechanical and electrical test equipment to make measurements including but not limited to pressure, flow, temperature, voltage, current. Demonstrated ability to conduct physical product tests, analyze results, and write technical test reports. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Strong technical report writing skills using Microsoft Word and Excel. Basic knowledge of statistical data to be used in analysis and conclusions of quantitative measures. Ability to work cross functionally with other departments such as Quality, Warranty, Product Management. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a project team. Demonstrated ability to write standard operating procedures (SOP's) for test protocols. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and drawings. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of part inspection equipment (hand tools, microscope, CMM experience) Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair test equipment. Experience with data acquisition and data logging systems, LabView Data Acquisition software. Working Conditions Remains in a stationary position up to 50% of the time and involves additional physical demands such as ascending/descending stairs, walking stooping and standing. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment 'PPE' when working/visiting manufacturing and plant locations. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery including but not limited to printer, tablets, cell phones. Moves transports, puts, or removes equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.; pushes, pulls products weighing up to 200 lbs. using provided safety tools. May be exposed to varying weather during travel. Domestic travel required approximately 20%.
